The market was near the marina. Thelea, from Exas Yachts, had given us some suggestions in her final communication as to what we needed to buy. While Shirley and I ...

Mosaics and Lions in Delos

Delos is an incredibly interesting place. The entire island is a collection of ruins where no one is allowed to stay on the island overnight so everyone who visits are day trippers—most of whom are staying in Mykonos. It was an excellent day for exploring ruins at just over 60F degrees it was cool and pleasant. There is a lot to explore on the island so be sure to leave enough time to see it all.

There are no complete building standing, but ...

A few days in Mykonos

It’s a little cool outside for a party island that is famous for its nude beaches and all-night dance clubs. This is the first time that I wished we were visiting Greece during the tourist season since the town almost feels empty and the beaches deserted.

This is ...

Cruising and coughing

... to not get so caught up with what you've achieved in life, as to get caught up in how you are living and celebrating life. Because I promise you, one day all of our oh-so-important-stuff is going to be washed over just like the Romans. And we'll be a quaint little blip on the map of history.

Um. Sorry. I went a little deep there. Perhaps those thoughts are better saved for my journal than my hippity hoppity fun blog!

Okay, so, Mykonos today and then ...

our very first cruise

... caparisoned as is the rest of this beautiful ship. The quality of the finish, the decorations, artwork, statues, floral arrangements, panelling and the facilities are superb. There is an upmarket restaurant called the Pinnacle Grill which we will visit at some stage but there one has to pay ($20 each), whereas in other restaurants on the rest of the ship food is free, abundant and delicious.

My Big Fat Greek Visit !

... were white! The sky was clear blue! Vendors were yelling! The smells of slouvaki were everywhere! It felt like we were at our Summer Fair!

We walked around the port and did some browsing in the store front shops and street market, occasionally being enticed to view local Greek Nike t-shirts! Being seasoned shoppers, we avoided eye contact and only took interest in an item if we were truly ...

Setting sail and Mykonos

... that this had never happened before, it was obvious that it had, and that with only 6 hours to resolve this problem that they would not be on the ship. So sad, and to be so far from home. She had an Indiana accent. So after a predictably delightful dinner, we went up to the Sun Deck to help hoist the sails. They always play Command and Conquest from the movie 1492, a suitably stirring piece. It was just ...

Wannabe jet-setters: trendy, fun, and expensive

We began our sail from Syros to Mykonos with very high winds, a very nervous skipper and an over-sailed crew. We stopped about 30 minutes out for a quick swim, and quickly broke the winch that pulls up our anchor. Our skipper was freaking out...we were stuck in some random cove with no one around and he had no knowledge of the boat. "Zis is very bad, very bad..." he would say. Eventually he called our former skipper who alerted him to the fuse box, and we were on our ...

Cruising the Greek Islands

How on Earth did I get to be so lucky?

My family and I went on a cruise of the Greek Islands. We ate a lot, got sea sick once, soaked up the sun, and absorbed the classically beautiful white and blue colours on the islands. There weren't very much ship activities that my sister and I were interested in but Allyson and I did win a bingo game! Mykonos was by far our favorite island because of its beauty.
