... a few minutes later - yay! So filthy, dust everywhere! Got back and I went to bus station and only one ticket left for puerto varas tomorrow afternoon, rest of buses sold out so I booked it. Bless her louise had waited for me and we were starving and looking for empanadas and eventually found a bakery selling them but they took ages and stupid system again where you have to order then queue somewhere else to pay then go back to original place to wait for ...

In the evening we sampled the traditional shellfish broth known locally as paila marina, which was excellent. Back in the hostel, we were in no mood for a few drinks though the Chileans we had met seemed genuinely disappointed that we were too tired. ... br> After changing into our togs, we walked the 450m to the end of the chasm, taking photographs on the way, before ending up in front of a powerful waterfall. As we walked up the red boardwalks we passed through the steam rising from the pools, the walls were covered in ferns and there was lots of greenery around. The water in the river, coming from the waterfall, running through the middle was freezing cold. All the pools were made of flat ...

... clear, and the most perfectly conical, steaming, snow covered volcano watched over the entire scene. Actually, here I'd like to morn the loss of one of the best photos I've ever taken - a picture of this volcano turning bright pink during one of the most vividly beautiful sunsets I've ever witnessed. This is going to take some getting over. Another special moment in Pucon came about, as so many of them do, through Sam's busking. A couple of teachers at the local ...
