... built in the 1st or 2nd Century and held 20,000. It was used for chariot races and gladiator fights and is still in use today during the bullfighting season. Very cool! Forgot to take a photo unfortunately.

Up early to make use of free Wifi - that is Kim watched the sunrise while sitting outside a closed café and scabbing their Wifi! We then we hightailed it out of Arles and towards Spain.
... rain finally stopped after nearly a week so we were able to enjoy some out of Scooby time!
Saturday 7 Nov
Forecasted for rain today but it held off until late afternoon which gave me time to replace the washer in the gear box and for Kim to go for a run, which she was hankering for as she had been getting a little cabin fever of late due to the rain and lack of exercise/time outside!
... didn’t even really resist. They knew the status to being ’Roman’ and that it would bring them instant infrastructure, roads, money, etc.
But enough of all this Roman talk - we’re in France after all! Italy will come when we set sail tomorrow night. For now we’re dining on our last few snipits of cheese, provincial bread and aioli sauce.

Perhaps they’ll listen now.
But what a sad story of a man impassioned by his art, yet rejected by all around him. To the point where only his brother befriended and supported him. Only selling 2 paintings during a lifetime, and even those that are given away ended up on hen-house doors and shot up by young passersby ...
... the wind to walk across the bridge in the evening to Avignon for dinner. This morning we went on a wine tour (I know, but it is too hard to resist) around the Cotes du Rhone with Phillipe, a very competant and helpful local guide. One of the first courses was no longer available so we both had a salmon dish. Now I’ve eaten a lot of salmon but this was the best ever – firm ...
Nîmes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France kevino101It's a lovely clear sunny day. Early breakfast of course as we have another busy day ahead of us. We didn't come all this way to while away the mornings in bed! We enjoy a plentiful breakfast of rolls, croissants, fruit juice and plain yoghurt. The plain yoghurt is not a popular item and usually ends up returning to the kitchen unopened. Nevertheless, we are finding our Continental breakfasts to be quite adequate to start the day, though I think Miryam is still yearning ...
Les Baux-de-Provence, France mmbcrossIt's now 8:30, dusk is falling and we are way behind schedule. We walk towards the Cours Mirabeau on the narrow winding streets of the old town, past the St-Sauveur Cathedral and through the striking Place de L'Hotel de Ville. The streets are lined with what look like upended cannon barrels. These iron posts, or "bites", slang for the male anatomy, are sunk into the street so cars cannot park or drive on the sidewalk. In many places the ...
