Cusco and the lead up to the trail!
... water, average breakfast. There was one incident where the electricity and water shut off completely for half a day and the backup generator set off all the smoke alarms. The chap at reception was the most unhappy employee in the world and even our most desperate smiles and jokes couldnīt wipe the gloom from his face. We immediately settled into the usual family laughs, stresses and habits. My mother had read somewhere that we needed small change and not big notes on the inca trail ...
The very very sacred valley......
... few miles down the road we stopped at the Temple Wiracocha (Raqchi)..an amazingly huge 15m high ruin of the temple built by the inkas as a trading place ..it was the half way point on the long road from Columbia to Chile and as well as being the temple of one of the Inka Kings, over 50 small huts were built for the traders to rest and deal their goods...all very interesting..
Our last stop along the route was Andahuaylillas, a very tiny village, the coach could barely get ...

Tomorrow is my golden birthday (the big 2-6) and I am grateful to be spending it on 7 hours of buses throughout The Sacred Valley. But seriously, Machu Picchu is a pretty great birthday gift ...
Acclimation base camp
... roasted for twelve-eighteen hours. there isn't much meat on their little bodies but Scott and i agreed that it tasted rich and greasy most comparable to duck meat. our buddy made a bet with us that the Isle of Man off of England's coast was NOT its own country. we know two cousins from there that would very much disagree and in fact pride themselves on having their own individual passport. after a few rounds of debate, Wiki and Google ...
Not such a happy ending to my Peru experience
... some chocolate and bought a fondue with fruit - it has a different taste to other chocolate I've had. Cusco is a lot nicer than what I was expecting, with a lovely central old town area, lovely narrow stone streets etc. The traffic is a bit crazy but I think that is usual anywhere in Peru! The only annoyance is the constant harrassment from the street hawkers, always aksing you if you want to buy a hat or bag or whistle ...
