... town getting information about the Colca Canyon and hte nearby moutains to climb. The girls a clearly not too motivated by a 6000m moutain eventhough right behind the city towers two volcanoes, El Misti (5875) and Chachani (6065). After various reviews and discussions with tour opertors it seems that I will be on my own (but with other tourist probably) climbing Chachani. Tomorrow a convent to visit and a bit more town walking but mainly resting ...
Arequipa, Arequipa, Peru sebouThis turned out to be indeed a day of ups and downs - in more ways than one.
It all started out well with an OK breakfast, great weather and timely pick-up for the tour to Colca Canyon and Mirador de Condor. As we drove further and further into the canyon, the most amazing landscape revealed itself. Colca Canyon has recently been measured, and there are points, where it is the deepest canyon in the world with over 4000 m of depth. After 2 hours of ...
... and out so quick)! Some nuns still live there but only in one newer section... Shattered at 9pm, too tired to even eat, we headed home to sleep as the next night would be on a bus again.
Our final day in Arequipa, and we headed to a small museum to see photos of damages to Arequipa from a rather large number of earthquakes that have occurred here (terror). Following directions from the footprints guide we headed over the river to a posher area called Yanahuara ...
... of St Catalina. It was set up in the 1500īs and at times has had over 200 nuns in there. Now it has abour 30 and most of it is open to the public. It is described as as city inside a city, which is pushing it a bit as there are just 6 streets in it. That said it feels like a completely different world, with just the occasional sound of traffic in the background to remind you that you are bang in the middle of ...
Arequipa, Peru escapingthenhs7AM Wake up call....time to get ready for the big bus ride in the peruvian desert!!!
The day starts quite rough as we discover our tour operator in Arequipa messed up our booking and instead of having
a private tour with french guide, we were allocated a group tour with spanish speaking and english speaking guide.
No big deal really as all of us spoke english (and one very keen learner wanted to hear the tour in Spanish as well ;)
But Aziz and Sophie, the blond couple ...

Nazca, Peru andrewyHello All, I took a detour yesterday and headed to Nazca to see these ancient lines carved into the desert. Tomorrow I head for Cusco and will visit Machu Picchu from there. For now, I leave you with Nazca. Imagine When I was in 5th grade, I rememeber picking up a book about the mysteries of the world. Purto Inka, Peru vagabond-ingAfter dropping off my bags at the hostel, I went for a small walk. Due to lack of sleep and not having eaten much, I was feeling down, vulnerable and a bit lost for the first time in my trip. After visiting the internet cafe, I walked into this bakery and went to ask the shopkeeper where the nearest post office was – but instead I burst into tears – she seemed really concerned and immediately asked if I was robbed – when I said no and didn’ ...
