Downhill Mountain Biking....on a volcano
Well I/we made it !!! At one point I wasnt sure we would. Juan, our bike guide, took us 5000m up Chichani Volcano, handed us our bikes and helmets and shoo-ed us down the hill. It was freezing cold and very cloudy. It might have taken us about 3-4 hours to make it to the bootom. Most was downhill except for about 2 km that was uphill (approx 60km total). Mike ...
The Naughty Nun's of Arequipa
After a 20 million hour bus journey that was only supposed to be a 10hr night bus...we arrived in Arequipa. Mind you - the bus was as good as business class in a plane and Hannah the tortoise slept through the whole trip thanks to the almost 180 degree reclining chair and her endless foot room! Lauren on the other hand was a cramped crab that had no sleep and was aware of every stop that occurred - hence Lauren the zombie was ...
Arequipa- New Year's Eve in the White City
After our long drive back from the canyon, Jon and I were happy to be able to rest for a few hours in our absolutely delightful hotel in Arequipa. I decided to put myself on a strict diet of Immodium and Pepto Bismol (to help heal the stomach), as we had already made reservations at the best restaurant in Arequipa for dinner. Ever ...
New ground, at last! Mollendo! and the beach!
Well, Debbie and I took the bus thru the Andes, yet 1 more time, but the trip was pleasant, and not too scarry! The environs are desolate, and look like we have landed on the moon! I had located a hostel in LP, we checked in, and were disappointed. After walking around for abit, we found a wonderful hotel, so switched! We had already paid, but we ...
Flight of the Condors
I'm back in Arequipa, a city I know rather well from my previous travels. And the only thing I can think about is how much a condor might taste like a turkey. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving back in the USA and I want a proper meal complete with some sort of large bird, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. And pumpkin pie... I want pumpkin pie! For the record, I got none of those things. What I did get, however, is very lucky photographing one of the largest ...
