Hello! So I arrived safely in Delhi and what a crazy place it is! The flight went smoothly with no major delays. I got to watch the Bollywood version of Dirty Dancing on the plane...it was awesome! It is one of my favorite movies to start with and they copied all the same scenes, except the sex ones. It was hilarious, althought I was the only one in the plane who thought so.... Arrived at J's Inn, where I'll be staying for a few days. Then I'm moving into a sweet apartment with an American gi...
New Delhi, India smellyHi! The second half of week one has gone quickly as I am getting into the swing of things at the office. I am starting to figure out who does what and have even managed to remember a few names! Which, by the way, is harder that I expected.... the Indian names are so different to start with and they speak pretty fast, so it's hard to catch it on the first go round. Everyone at the office has been very helpful getting me oriented, and especially in choosing my lunch! I have moved out of J's Inn...
New Delhi, India smelly... is a drain. Faucets but no tub or shower stall decorate one wall and large buckets below are used to mix the water to the desired temperature. A cup is then used to wet, wash and rinse right onto the floor, with the water draining away. I found myself proud to know the bathing routine and the girls thought it was the coolest 'shower' ever :)
After bathing, I took Sumi and Jaya out for a quick walk around the block. The 4- and 5-story apartment buildings ...
... the air. There was a strange sweet scent among the acrid dirt and exhaust fumes. The scent took me back years to my childhood. As a Veterinarian's son, I could detect the sweet smell of cow dung. We had come for a taste of adventure. I thought to myself, "we are going to get a mouth full."
As we entered the hotel, we were welcomed with small flower petals being sprinkled on top of our heads by friendly hotel staff. They also put a small red ...
... on my own the dark and narrow alleys of bazar Paharganj. From what I have seen from the rickshaw, it has a very intense atmosphere and I sort of fear everybody is staring at me as the next tourist to fall under one of their traps. I don't remember who suggested me to find an accommodation in the bazar, but he mentioned that it was an Indian version of Kaoh San Road. That's absolutely not true. I find Kaoh San Road far, far better (and I even didn't ...

Delhi, India zameensandeepWell we made it back to Delhi after a heinous 5am express train from Amristar (we upgraded to the first class, which it definitely was). We checked into a different hotel this time, upgrading ourselves a bit in anticipation of Stephanies arrival. After check-in we enjoyed some lunch and then took a rickshaw south to Khan Market to buy some jeans. Charis ripped the ****** out of hers a week ago, and Arik's ...
new delhi, India arikandcharisI thought that today I would go out and explore by myself. I'm okay with the Auto Rickshaw thing now although I'm positive that whatever they charge me is double what the locals would pay but the most I've paid has been just over a pound and sometimes it takes about an hour to get to these places after battling with traffic and the road system in Delhi so in the grand scheme of things its not much at all. The only disadvatage of these Rickshaws is that ...
