... sleep too much!) but then when I checked out in the morning and said I was going to Alcatraz for a few hours and if I could leave luggage they then had the audacity to charge even morrrrre money! And wouldn't let me use any facilities for the rest of the day. Not impressed but not much choice! Anyway... Went and collected my belongings from Gay Goliath, who seemed to have an later ego as his other job involved him in quite a fancy area in the financial District, then escaped ...
... we had to have tea, so we went for a walk around the town; found a pub called theMucky Duck and had a lovely meal. We got talking to the Owner who was an ex rugby player who had visited NZ about 5 years ago. He had played in Christchurch and Auckland and was full of questions. After that we went for another walk and saw that there was a Classic Car convention and there were many lovely cars to view. It was a nice finish to the day and then off to bed.

We made it halfway before it got dark, and while Jonas was tempted to press on in the dark, I gently suggested that I'd rather not plod along a poison-oak lined trail in the dark and the campsites here looked perfectly fine thank-you-very-much. So we set up camp along a creek and soaked our dirty tired feet for a while in the icy water. We completed the fInal 5 hilly miles the next morning, and reached the springs campsites well before noon. ...
... build, and is still unfinished! It was a magnificent site! It took about 20 minutes by tour bus to drive from the bottom of the hill to the top where the castle was. There were views up here of the ocean, the mountains and the beautiful rolling green countryside. The family that used to live here even had a zoo, complete with giraffes, zebras and even polar bears! There were remnants of the wooden cages and pens that housed these animals still standing ...
