So here we are, getting set for our 2014 Balkan Adventure. After 2 days of ferocious packing and cleaning, as we vacate what has been our Reception, Bar and Restaurant for the last six and a half years, we have collapsed in a heap pending some last minute personal packing and 'making ourselves look beautiful' preparations - so much to do, so little time!

... first to enter the bunkers as evidenced by the insignia on the wall (sorry Band of Brothers). It was a fascinating walk through history.

But before we could take the path to the tram, we decided a little lunch was in order: beer and of course a sausage dog complete with … curry powder. Tasty, tasty, tasty.

Anyway, with appetite satiated, we contined the one mile walk to the funicular (tram), which took us a few hundred meters ...

Hitler's Eagle's Next

A travel blog entry by judyinocala on Sep 10, 2014

Today we are back in Oberammergau with two choices of activities. One group will enjoy a quiet day exploring Oberammergau, and others will choose to go again to the Austrian border, high up in the mountains, to visit Hitler's Alpen retreat called the Eagle's Nest. The weather threatens to make the trip pointless, but Dave is very interested in World War II and has been looking forward to visiting this place. So he and some others decided to take the chance. ...
