... world's Joshua trees grow here. They are not really a tree, but a species of yucca. A majority are pretty scrawny, but there were many fine specimens. However, I think the best feature of this park are all the boulder stacks throughout the area. They create many strange, eerie formations including Skull Rock ( very cool). Salton Sea Had a short easy drive to Salton Sea SRA, CA. It's a major body of very saline water 235' below sea level. It is losing about 6" of water per year with no replenishment, so the only fish that can survive are tilapia. Matt and I arrived to Idyllwild, CA on Friday evening (6/10) after a rather uneventful drive from Colorado. We celebrated Matt's upcoming 28th birthday yesterday with all the family, complete with Matt's big bro Dan's home brewed imperial pilsner. We've been consuming as much craft beer as possible over the past few days, knowing that a good beer will be hard to find over the next 2 months. However, there will be ...

... Pass with its golden rolling hills dotted with oak trees that look like little green umbrellas.

Our destination: the Gannon BD&D (Bed, drinks by the pool & dinner) aka John & Yvonne Gannon’s house in Los Altos. It was a fun afternoon & evening visiting longtime friends with the added bonus of seeing John’s parents, Ursula & Chuck and Christa with her two adorable children, Hailey & ...
