... I'm going to start looking for a picture of my dad and maybe send it to him for a commissioned piece of his artwork.

After spending more time that we expected (and we could have spent much more) we headed out for a nice lunch and then we were on our way to visit the wife of Nick's mentor from his first job out in Los Angeles.

Thanks Heather and Doug for the most wonderful time in your spectacular home and surrounding area.

... We also watched an ancient movie, The Romance and Sex Life of the Date. Very interesting, I had no idea how labor intensive it is to grow dates. Metal ladders are attached permanently to the trees so that the workers have easy access to the fruit. New pieces of ladder are added to the tree as they grow. If you happen to see ladders attached, they are probably date palms.

For the past couple months, we've been busy enjoying the company of old friends and meeting a whole batch of new ones (that somehow found their way to our place). Most are from BC, Alta or Sask - they're all our age and have similar experiences. You know them already - grew up on a farm, worked for an oil ...

... exciting and less inspiring than the Josuha tree. Needless to say, we weren't inspired to pen a hit record but Sara did call me a very naughty boy. ;)

We then drove to a little town in Idywild, a mountain biking adventure hub on the look out for a replacement bike. Apart from a funny chat with a mountain biking hippy and an aladdins cave of a charity shop there wasn't really anything of interest. They ...

... a feeling compounded by the knowledge that even if I could go straight to an airport I would still be stranded on the wrong side of the planet.

In the shuttle to the festival a fellow passenger said they'd heard that the airports could be closed for up to nine months. Wild speculation no doubt but putting a brave face on it doesn't mean there's not a growing concern that events could spiral into an extended exile. Our travel team had emailed earlier to say they ...
