Last Stop- Lucerne

... for about 50% of our diet these last few months. But we were also a bit sad that our Europe trip we had looked forward to for so long was coming to an end and real life awaited..

Staying in Lucerne was a great idea. It was a really picturesque town with mountains as the backdrop to a nice river and little old town. We walked through the narrow streets along the river and climbed up some steps to walk ...

Mount Pilatus here we come!!

... day the weather was actually pretty good, it had rained most of the night, but it was still ok to go up to Mount Pilatus, and that's what we did! Once we received our tickets from our very helpful tourist info agent, we jumped on the bus, and from the bus we walked to the gondola's and from the gondola's we took the small 4 seater gondola's up half the mountain. All the way up we got to see a beautiful view of Lucern and the surrounding ...

... near the train station does! And get this (European movie theatres are ridiculous!), we could buy the tickets for the other theatre at this one, and they are reserved seating so the guy asked us where we wanted to sit...we were confused at first but just told him to pick wherever he though was good. So we headed towards the train station...and then it dawned on us how early we really were...HOURS early. So we went to grab a bite to eat...and ...

... Construction of the railway commenced in 1894 under the guise of Adolf Guyer-Zeller, a colourful and charismatic figure in the history of Swiss transport. The project took 16 years to complete at a cost of 15 million Swiss Francs and is Europe's highest altitude cog railway. The Jungfraujoch centre which lies at the top of the railway offers the opportunity to walk out on to a glacier, stroll through an ice palace which featuring some fantastic ...

... wheel generating a motor for pressing the wheat, the cheese maker, the wine maker and so on. These cottages again were quite a climb and we huffed our way under the hot sun in hope to watch the cheese making and wine making process, but were disappointed to see none! What instead we saw was a 'donkey-festival' where they tied up a dozen donkeys in line, decorated with flowers, tugging a carriage! I did buy some ...

... called Planalp that was at 4200 feet in elevation. There were some houses even higher up that we could not make it to because I am weak. And it was hot. Pretty views of the countryside were our reward though. We stumbled our way back down and were gonna go swimming, but it started to rain again as soon as we got back. Nap time. That night we went to a little bar and got some decent grub. The thunderstorms began again but it was ...

... nostalgic for leaving. One last gze at this once in a life time view before saying goodybe. The rest of the place was now in mist as we went below the cloud line (as the last hour of the mist we were above the weather). Once changing trains at klein schneidegg i fell asleep with my head on her lap, and she let me sleep till we hit Lauterbrunned 2 hours later -isn't she lovely :oP That night we unfortunatly resorted to macca's as it was by far the cheapest option and we were ...
