Kathmandu the continuing story

... 2nd visit to Bodnath stupa and may join up with the group later for lunch (although I doubt they will be back early enough for lunch!)

Hopefully we will be in Bhutan tomorrow - latest news on communications is that there is internet in the major towns but it's really slow!! Mobiles may not work. So dont panic if it goes quiet for the next couple of weeks! Should be back in India late evening 1st December so expect the/more Bhutan updates in the days after that.....

Doctors' orders

... in Kathmandu, power outages are a daily routine. He was waiting for the electrician. When the electrician got there, we all ran up to the doc's office (using the stairs) and he had a proper look at Dinesh. His equipment was taped together, but his care for the child was unquestionable. He was scrupulous, and we left confident that Dinesh would be okay.

It was about as real a travel experience as I've ever had. And it's everyday reality for Nepalis.
Trick or Treat Nepali Style

... trick or treaters weren't just kids, some groups were made entirely of adults.

Now its been a long time since I trick or treated. But back in my heyday I was pretty darn good. I realized this was my chance for a triumphant return.

I studied the group. The routine consisted of basically clapping, gyrating slightly in time to the music and singing a call and response.

I had this.<br ...

Poorly sick, birthdays, buses and Diwali

... our friends)! A family of mice, who sounded like they were being tortured, woke us up at 445am this morning, scratching and scrambling around on the roof. As you can imagine, this did not bode well with us - to put it politely, we pooped ourselves (no antibiotics needed this time). We couldn't work out if they were in our room or not, so I sent Matt out of the mosquito net, armed with my flip flop to turn on the lights!! We ...

3 days in Kathmandu

... today I went along to my language lessons with a renewed sense of purpose after all the new words I had learnt whilst out and about with Krishna. Some of it is now beginning to make sense but I still don’t have the confidence to try it out.

I also had my first proper night out last night! I have been exchanging texts with a guy who I made contact with on the Lonely Planet forum when he was asking about rafting etc in Nepal. Anyway to cut a long story short I met up with him ...

Teej, Sickness & Booking Paradise

... I booked it. It's done. I'm going to Chitwan. Wicked. After that, I go off to Pokhara where I will likely not see the Himalayas either because again, it is the monsoon season :( and after that, I book my ticket to Thailand probably for Sept. 12th.

This part of my journey is almost over. I'm actually shocked how quickly it has gone but it's not over yet so I will enjoy it and really, I can't wait to see my good old friend Scott in Chiang Mai.

The project I ...

Sari Fest in Bhaktapur

... anywhere near their baby so we entertain the little girl as she sits on Ram's lap and I think how cool it is that it is completely normal for someone getting on a bus to simply pass their baby to a complete stranger who also doesn't think it weird, and the child does not cry or worry, and naturally the strange man and some foreigner talk to her and try to entertain her while the parents have not even an ounce of stress. I've seen this a lot here. People seem to trust and operate more on ...
