In case you haven't got the point yet, the ridges on which the town is built are at least 40 degrees. It is seriously steep and people come here for holidays. Wierd. Strangely though - and I've heard this a fair bit now - when Indians talk in Hindi they often throw in many English words; I don't know if these are words for which there is no direct Hindi equivalent, the word has been 'imported' into the language, or they are speaking in a mixture of Hindi and English. Whichever it is, I was sometimes able to guess what the guide was saying!

... bags (when I say bags, there are seven of us, all female, so you imagine the struggle!) to a lovely waiting room, full of people and right next to some absoloutely without a shadow of a doubt the most disgusting toilets I have ever come across! The toilets at Reading Festival looked luxury in comparison! So we set up camp with snacks, books, cards etc and was then informed it was an extra hour to wait. I have come to the notion that their are two types of time here. Tourist time ...

After completing the same scenic railway journey that my Grandad would have travelled 60 years before me to get to school; over 90 km of snaking track, through 103 tunnels and over numerous bridges, we arrived in Simla. We received a breakfast on the train consisting of curried, potato style pancakes, tomato sauce and dry bread. I also decided to take my tea black from this point on as the tea we received was far better than any PG tips or even the posh stufff we get at home. ...
