The shore excursion from our ship to the Venetian islands of Murano and Burano was nothing short of FANTASTICO! We arrived at the Murano glass-making factory to watch these fine craftsmen demonstrate their work of turning a mixture of fine sand and other chemicals into fine glass creations through a combination of skillful heating and sculpting. …

... and Katrina was sorry we couldn't spend a week wandering around the laneways and exploring the neighbouring Islands. Venice was wetter than the first time I visited - rain in venice is nice, but all in all there is just too much water around. St Marco's Square was flooded at high tide, and if you didn't have gumboots on you had to walk on platforms that snaked between the restaurants and the cathedral. Still the venetians live on in their water-city - the place really is a ...

      Venice Day 1

A travel blog entry by julmci on Oct 06, 2014

We woke up after spending the night on the night train. I had slept fairly well. I was going to sleep for an hour then waking up for 5 minutes and so on. After some breakfast from the on board café we soon arrived at Venice. From my first glances at Venice I realised that it was not how I had expected it. I knew that Venice had lots of canals but it turns out that Venice has canals AND is made up of ...

... Grand Canal vaporetto to Piazza San Marco, where we were to catch a connection for Murano. These ferries wait for no man, a point graphically demonstrated when a family were separated, the dad being slightly too far behind his wife and child and the barrier closed. The little girl promptly burst into tears and was not comforted by the fact that he'd catch the next ferry and meet them. Paul helped the mum with her suitcase when we disembarked so she ...

... directed to the next sales desk.....but we finally found the correct ticket booth to purchase them so we were set to jump on board in the morning.
Unfortunately next we had to pack our bags ready for our departure.

Saw our Host in the Square at 7.15am and he couldn't believe we were heading off so early.

Great weather conditions, unlike on our arrival day, so everything went well.

      Ciao Venice.
Grazie for a most enjoyable visit
