The shore excursion from our ship to the Venetian islands of Murano and Burano was nothing short of FANTASTICO! We arrived at the Murano glass-making factory to watch these fine craftsmen demonstrate their work of turning a mixture of fine sand and other chemicals into fine glass creations through a combination of skillful heating and sculpting. …

... This was like a mini Colosseum. It's still used for opera's in the summer and they were preparing for a performance that night of Aida. Pity we couldn't stay, but we did enjoy watching them set up while exploring the Arena. The square also had a large fountain, statue and gardened areas making it a very pleasant place to be.

... Staying at the top end of Venice means you get to walk the length of the island to get to St Marc's square and basilica at the bottom. Tamara and I were both enjoying the spectacle of the city with the hustling tourists and abundance of amateur photographers snapping away at various vantage points. We decided the best vantage point though would be with some height so we got ourselves up the bell tower of St Marks. What a view! After coming back down to Earth, ...

I awaken to the sound of a gentle lap, lap of water against the wall of the apartment, as the wake of a barge travels up our little canal - this is Venice! The city is crowded, but it is Saturday and there are several cruise ships in port. We take the ferry to our apartment which is near San Marco, so several stops along the Grand Canal to our landing. The canal traffic is thick with ...
