We walked around for another hour or so with our heavy bags in the INTENSE humidity and warmth, trying to find a place to stay that was somewhat American friendly (AKA spoke enough English to take our money and give us a room). We ended up staying at the Rainbow Hotel for a little over 10,000 Yen ($127ish). After a brief struggle with the AC unit (all the controls were in Kanji Japanese script) we gave up and went to sleep!
