Istanbul, Berlin, Stockholm, Tallinn (Estonia) and St Petersburg have been on our 'hit list' of places to visit. So once in Europe, cheapo airlines and ferries made this possible as we made our way northward to see our family in Finland.

After that, another short drive to the much larger Turkansaari Open-Air Museum, which had over 40 buildings showcasing ...

We followed the Lonely Planet recommendation and explored the Taidemuseo modern art gallery, which turned out to be very good. The best part was surprisingly the quilt exhibition, featuring a number of U.S. quilt artists. There were other exhibitions as well, and we spent an enjoyable couple of hours ...

... t even recognize the tune, let alone have any confidence in my fumbling Finnish!!! By the time the third verse rolled around I began to relax a little, trying to assure myself that most of them wouldn't notice the mumbling, off-key notes....Mmm-hmm, sure.

There was not a lot about the afternoon program that I found easy or painless. Connecting with older people is not a great strength of mine, especially when they ...
