Day 14: We left SF in the morning to drive down the highway back to LA. First stop was the huge Gilroy shopping outlets south of San Jose and the Silicon Valley. 4h later, all the girls were happy with a car full of bags and five new shoes. We drove further down to Monterey and stayed over in Pacific Grove, a nice town at the beach. The temperature …
... machine so girls' knickers can be washed! Most exciting of all this - we finally get to hit an American supermarket and buy groceries - yippee! Slightly scary moment where cards don't work and we fear destitution in Monterey Bay but fortunately we figure it out and manage to buy food so I can cook chicken and pasta for the girls and finally see them eat something other than hot dogs, fries or pizza. Lovely to eat dinner round our own little table and tuck up for an early night in comfy ...
... probably being stiff from the drive, Dick played a pretty good round of golf. He said it was just beautiful out there.
And, I went for a 4+ mile walk down by Cannery Row with Mel. Saw some familiar sights: marina, Fisherman's Wharf, and Wharf #2. No fog, just beautiful weather!
Went to a local taqueria for lunch. Yummy food!
LAUNDRY DAY, too .... We decided that almost our entire wardrobe needed a wash. So, four loads later, it was done.
... an excited kid seeing them dive and then to have them close enough to hear them "sing" was fantastic.
All to soon the skipper had to return to the wharf area, but we were escorted part of the way by playful dolphins darting around.
To end off this lovely day Paul and I had a delicious fish and chip lunch with free calamari.

... listed as a 45 min minute roundtrip, but that would require you to push the tempo quite a bit. We took about 90 min, but that is at a slow pace to enjoy the views and take pictures.
Once back down we think we deserve a short break and go for coffee and strudels at Big Sur Bakery. Good coffee and strudels (Strawberry and Blueberry) at San Francisco prices - can't help but wonder what ...
