Marvellous Mendoza!

... too happy and good-looking for their own good. Naturally Per and I fit right in.

After being told by Hyatt’s concierge that a wine tour would set us back £100 per person, I put on my budget hat and within ten minutes of stepping out of the hotel had arranged a tour of two wineries, a family-run liquor/chocolate maker and an olive oil farm – for a grand total of £9 per person. All with tastings ...

Wine & Mountains, a good combo

... sledges and slid down the mountain side, some of us on many occasions!

Bike & Wine Tour
What better way to transport yourself between each different winery than by bike? I´m not sure if there is one, I would definately recommend this trip. Three winery tours, three different wines to taste at each, a bike ride between them. And they also throw in an Olive Oil factory (where I thought I may have picked up a taste for olives because they were quite nice. I found out later ...

Mendoza: High Andes and Low Vineyards

... drums and wooden flutes and tons of painters with easels up everywhere. As night eventually fell on the city, the ring of the plaza was lined with arts and crafts stalls giving a festive and cultural feel to a city that is otherwise fairly plain (they even had homemade Krusty the Klown stuffed dolls and beer mugs that were made to look like Duff cans). Other than wandering around, we wanted to sort out our plans for visiting the high ...

Bikes and Wine-Day Two & Loco/Loco

... blend Quilmera?? This was a blend of different red wines. It finished very nicely and was over all a great wine. We actually split a bottle of this wine to take back to the hostel. Buying a bottle for around 150 pesos allowed us to not have to pay for the tasting. It ended up costing each of us an extra 20 pesos but it was well worth it. After the blend we ventured into another line of there wines. This line called the Finca is an all melbec line the ...

Relaxing in Mendoza... mostly.

... we discovered that we had booked the best hostel ever! It was recommended to us so we were expecting it to be nice but it blew me away. There was a completely private back yard that was full of trees creating so much shade to escape the crazy hot weather! There were hammocks scattered about the grounds and a nice clean pool to help waste the day away... this was all our first day consisted of ...

Mendoza

Argentinian Wine Country

... wasn't especially beautiful, but it was spectacular. 800 hectares of grapes with the Andes looming immense in the background (impossibly big, they shoot up abruptly from a flat plane at about 1000 feet above sea level to the highest peaks in the Americas, around 20,000 feet) are impressive on their own, but the building where they make the wine is what makes the place unforgettable. At first it appears to be all concrete curves and function, a flying saucer ...

Crossed the Andes Twice More

... Buses go from the one place to the other every fifteen minutes. We decided to try one of the fifteen funiculars to get up to a vertical neighborhood. Cerro Concepcion, with its colourful houses built into the steep hillside. We had a great lunch at a small family restaurant called Carmenere Restau that had Miles Davis playing in the background. The meal was a preset lunch menu and was one of our best meals on the trip. Our walk had ...

Settling in...

... go for a run. Not a good idea. I had little kids like chasing me like I was part of some show and all of their parents were looking at me like I had gone and lost my mind. Going out to exercise on a Sunday?? And what's more on a HOLIDAY?? How WILD!?! Also, it was a day of the Zonda Wind. To explain what this does to people, car accidents increase by 20% on days of Zonda, the body releases twice the amount of serotonin into the blood stream during these days and many ...
