+ Oberammergau
This is a picturesque town known for its wood carvings of the cribs of Jesus Christ. Oberammergau is internationally even better known for its Passionsspiele, an open air theatre.
We only had time only for Oberammergau and Linderhof on one day, but for those travelling more efficiently, can also get more or all locations accomplished in one day.
As Füssen was an evident tourist trap, with half the signs in German, the other half in Japanese, we decided that it would be better to seek local food outside Füssen. Three restaurants were recommended to us by our Allgäu farmer host.
1. Die Fischerhütte in Hopfen am See
2. Sennerei in Hopferau
3. Der Hirsch in Hopferau
The Fischerhütte is primarily a fish restaurant serving fresh fish from the ...
... the place in the decorations. After our tour, we decided to walk/hike up to the bridge where we could see a lot of people taking photos. It was well worth it as the view is most likely the same one that we saw in all the photos-the leaves were just starting to change color and in a couple more weeks would have been spectacular. They were still great colors now, though. After our 7 Euro parking fee!, we saw a night of canned food ...
Füssen, Bavaria, Germany armajor7We take a last daytrip together to beautiful, fairy tale Schloss Neuschwanstein. Fiona had visited before, but it was still a lovely day out together, and probably one of the last castles we will visit...we're definitely feeling a bit castled out.

... too.
The rest of the tour took us to Linderhof castle and Neuschwanstein castle. What magical looking places they were. Neuschwanstein is the castle Walt Disney uses the sillohette of at the start of his movies. Anyway, after the trip it was back to Munich for a day or so and then on the plane home.
We left Rothenburg to head towards Mad King Ludwigs castles outside of Fussen. Here is where we mistook a stop in the burbs of Augsburg with the main station in Augsburg and bailed off the train as it was starting to move again. Failing to understand most of what the old guy on the platform was saying (again, don't speak very good German), I did understand "Nicht Augsburg." Realizing our ...
Fussen, Germany osiriscultToday we took a road trip through Bavaria to visit neuschwanstein castle. We took the scenic route along the lake to get there and we could really better appreciate the scenery this way. I took many pictures along the way. We stopped at a beautiful chapel along the way (can't remember the name). Anyway, I believe arvid said it was in the rococo style and was quite ...
Fussen, Germany eobrie16Another work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.
Oberamergau, Bavaria, Germany lolly... gorgeous and the views of it and from it are breathtaking.
After our tour we drove to Kempten and stayed at the Peterhof downtown. This was our first room with a tv...all German stations, of course!
... napkins.
We toured Linderhof, one of crazy King Ludwig's castles. It's the only one that was finished before he died. Even though it wasn't sunny, Rick made some gorgeous pictures.
