And now for something completely different

... I would definitely cut down by at 30-50% as in most places there have been laundry facilities and here the maid does it – what can I say? Went for a walk to the local shops, past the lovely on site pool complex, and found my way to an enormous shopping mall, 1 Utama, which is one of many to have sprung up since my last visit. Lots of bargains – but as some wise person said "a bargain is only a bargain if it is something you need" – so apart from a pair of shorts I ...

The Arrival

... show was only one one day of the week, saturday, and only at one time, 8pm, so it was quite a nice coincidence to be there at that exact time.

After a day of seeing exotic animals and looking down upon the tops of sky-scrapers, I was thoroughly enjoying an exquisite crispy coconut chicken in a very authentically adorned Thai restaurant, when a moment of reality hit me and i thought:

"This is so much better than being stuck at work!"

I actually laughed out loud ...

KL, Cameron Highlands, Penang & Langkawi- Malaysia

... Keith spotted another backpacker and quickly offered to share our ride and split the fare, and this is how we met Fabian. We immediately clicked with Fabian, and wound up spending every day in Langkawi together. Fabian's signature saying "WHY NOT?" quickly became our Langkawi mantra. (For example: Let's eat at Tomato Restaurant for the millionth time this week...."Why not?"...Do you want to listen to more reggae ...

China Town

Today I took an early speed boat back to the mainland of Malaysia. I shared a cab with a British couple and then flew to Kuala Lumpur. When I arrived I grabbed a bus to China Town then spent nearly an hour looking for the hostel I'd chosen only to find out that it was right next to the bus stop where I'd been dropped off. I hung out at the hostel for a while then, after resting up a bit, I met two ...

KL

KL has a fantastic public transportation system (Monorail, Light Rail, Buses, and Taxis), and still has horrible traffic jams.

Some people had told me that the Petronas Towers were less than impressive, and they were wrong.

Monkeys aren't afraid of people...and surprisingly do not respond to my monkey calls.

... time to go up the towers. Whatever the guidebooks say should be followed as the queues are endless and if you don't get here early it is possible that you have to return the following day because the tickets (I believe) are usually sold out before 9 a.m. or shortly after.

After getting our tickets for the Petronas Tower we were off to discover the sites of Kuala Lumpur. The sky train, buses and light rail system make getting around in KL quite ...

Kuala Lumpur - "Old McDonald ..." continued

... Guest House, just opposite Jerantut bus station, which was nice enough. We stayed in the form for RM10 each, which even had a TV! Tom tried to get it to work before realising it wasn't plugged in. He then realised he needed an adapter to plug it in. After finally retreaving the adapter from the hostel worker, he tried fiddling witht he TV again, but it seemed jammed on the video channel. He went to ask for some assistance from the young Chinese ...

Clean Kuala Lumpur

... there literally are millions of them flanking the motorway from the airport into the city (about 1 hour).

Sweeping into this high tech mecca of towering mirrored skyscrapers, unique architecture and some stolen bits and peieces from the main capitals of the world i.e the Twin Petronis Towers and the revolving KL tower which alows for a fantastic view of the city. Skyrails and entire malls dedicated to digital consumption completely wees all over PC world 1 mall which I fell in ...
