Day 9. Is this a perfect day for the Sacred Valley? YES. But first we decide to decide to walk up the plaza de Aromas and try to find the street that will take us the church on the hill for a view of sunrise. After some wrong turns, we're up at the top. The view is pretty decent over the town, but the sun is just not cooperating. Jessica and I were hoping to see the town bathed in the sun's first golden rays, but the only sunlight is on the mountain peak behind the town. We stop for a photo o...
Cusco, Peru kupdegraThis is Kris...We're officially back from Peru for a few days now. I decided to continue the blog entries to document the memories of the trip. So, the Inca Trail was awesome. It was so much more awesome than I thought it would be (and I thought it was going to be pretty great) and after a very scary ride home, we were tired but happy. The bus ride down from Machu Picchu was extremely scary (as I've mentioned before) but, the bus ride back from Olleytambo was also extremely scary as well. We ...

So after rugby came the briefing for our trek. Unfortunately we turned up late as time flies when you are watching rugby. They had already started and Chief and Lucy had joked that we would be in the pub, only for us to turn up stinking- of the pub! We left with additions to shopping list and a degree of trepidation about our forthcoming trek.

... After we had explored the site, we wandered back to the city through San Blas, an area of Cuzco, and snacked and tried to find a wool shop that we had read about (well, Kay and I wanted the wool, mom and Christine didn't really care) but realized that it too was closed...stupid Sunday. We all ate alpaca for dinner. Not only are they cute but they're delicious too!!! Yum!!!
... Around 7:45 p.m. we went to the Plaza De Arms. There was a festival going on. There were a lot of people and music. We listened to some music and then walked around. It was kind of cool outside - she had a winter coat and gloves. They have a ton of large churches and many, many churches. We just got back and we are both exhausted. I need some sleep. Things are going well - so far. Tomorrow the kids come.
After the ups and downs of the Inca Trail we took a little time out yesterday to rest and relax and take in the sights of beautiful Cusco.
The central city area is a mix of old Inca ruins and Spanish colonial architecture and with stunning weather we simply strolled the streets between breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Today though we were back into action mode with a spot of white water rafting on the Urubamba river, a few ...
... on the ground. Lots of manual labor in Peru.
In Moray, I needed to use my wide angle lens as wide as it could go to take in the vast expanse of the circular agricultural terraces. We walked down to the center of the largest circle, using the stone stairs made by the Incas. These were steep stairs and we thought that Incas were short, so we were perplexed and wondering if they ran up ...

Cusco, Peru 86492... 7:30, as we were told. We are really impressed at the punctuality of the tourists services here, which I guess I had mentioned already before. It should only take about 6 hours to get to Cusco, but we had 5 stops... 4 of which are on some museums, or old colonial towns, and an archaeological site, so we pretty much stop every 2 hours or so, which made the trip feel shorter. We also stopped for a Peruvian lunch at a small town. I ...
Cusco, Peru sakuyaini... track to Machu Picchu itself, a very tough terrain of large rocks to walk on which was actually quite boring in lots of long straight parts. Despite this I wouldn’t change to the four day trek as the walk was a good mental challenge and thankfully Edwardo also made parts interesting by pointing out sections of Mountains which were at the back of Machu Pichu itself, offering a seldom seen perspective on the place. We would all see this the next day and it would make sense… ...
