      ... mountains covered in snow, with glaciers visible everywhere (no more Italian frecciarossa or FrecciaBianca trains, with the free coffee/wine carts that visit the seats after each train stop - boo hoo).       ... very nicely built and in the tiny town of Castellinaldo. Breakfasts were feasts, with many varied foods including poached pears, baked pears, and pear tart, all fantastic. There were various cakes and egg dishes and crème caramel which we suspected might have been left from dessert the night before at the restaurant but which we all loved.

      ... the same weight. After exploring the town we journeyed to another winery Tenuta Carretta, this time in the Barbaresco area. It has been a grape growing area for 100's of years but only in the latter part of the 1900's has this winery produced world class Nebbiolo red wines. Their wine making operation and cellars are extensive and all underground. We tasted 4 Nebbiolo reds from different vintages.
