... to eat before calling up our tuk-tuk driver for day two at Angkor. The second day had a very different mood compared to the first. On the second day the temples were smaller and more intimate, they were also not as crowded and it was not as hot. I really liked the second day. I felt that the temple were more beautiful on a less grand scale. Oh and since we started later, instead of doing sunrise, we did sunset. The complete opposite as sunrise, the sky was full of reds and ...

Day 3: 9th Nov
8.30 a.m;Returned to Phnom Penh by car.
... totally pimped out, with a bar and large seating area downstairs, plus an indoor pool!
Shortly after midday I went up to my room, a large dorm with three bunk beds, plus an immaculate bathroom and large separate shower room. Bloody lovely. In my room was a bloke from London called Richard, and he had just arrived too. We got chatting, so after I'd sorted my stuff and we'd both had showers, we decided to head into town. The walk took about ten minutes ...
... my leg. What I saw but may not show up in the photo’s are the deities carrying swords, devatas, and marine creatures. I did get a photo of Yama the god of the Underworld sitting at the top of this terrace who is considered the “leper king”. He is given this distinction, according to the guide, because of the corrosion of its surface by patches of lichen and because of an old folk legend that one of the Angkor kings was a leper.
Siem Reap, Cambodia mrcwoodsmanArrived in Siem Reap yesterday after an all day ride from Sihanoukville. Not really too bad as the bus was comfortable and the scenery was endlessly fascinating. We only managed to get here at all by determinedly tearing ourselves away from S'ville where we were beginning to settle into a very enjoyable beachy routine.
During breakfast this morning very heavy rain, thunder and ...
We have arrived in Siem Reap, home of Angkor Wat (the largest religious temple in the world) and I would say well over 100 Khmer temples.
First impressions are generally positive. We arrive on the Mekong Express bus from Phnom Pehn and are ferried to our hotel (Dara Reang Sey) which looks fairly impressive from the outside. It was built around two years ago, has ensuite bathrooms, swimming pool, all of the usual comforts (tv etc ...
... the visit - to a lake with floating villages. We hopped onto the tuk-tuk and went off to discover Cambodia.
What I discovered on the way to the floating villages was some of the worst physical poverty I have ever seen. What I mean by "physical" was poverty of material things - like the poor roads full of rocks, debris, and holes; the rickety houses built on thin bamboo sticks without running water or electricity; unclothed babies (oh my God I have ...
... many faces were looking at you all the time. After that comes the Elephant Temple where there are 3D Elephants coming out of the temple. My next favorite temple was there one where Tomb Raider was filmed. It was the most rustic one we saw that day. Everywhere you looked you saw stones that were once attached to the temple on the floor, trees overtaking the temple, moss growing on random stones, and a temple that was very old in its natural beauty ...
Angkor Wat, KH.16, Cambodia allieadventures... I went...The whole span is only about 150 meters long. There's a small waterfall where the really intricate carvings of buddhas or something or other and up and down the riverbed are these long beds of concentric circles that were carved in. The river is never dry so someone must have stood in there and carved them. I don't think anyone really knows the purpose of them. If they do, I didn't read about it. It was a cool area and there's also a large waterfall where you can cool off ...
