... San Bernadino mountains towards San Diego. Climbing back to 5,000ft, we rode some of the best twisters I have ever ridden on. Arriving at our accomodation - Cherokee Lodge, we had time for a quick shower before we headed off to the first of our reunions - a private party for Vietnam Vet SEALs. Distance from Willy's house to Coronado was 1178 miles (1900 kms) in 5 days.

... Diego to Yuma is always interesting - leave the ocean, up and over the the 4000 ft. Cuyamaca Mountains and down the other side to rocks, the Imperial Sand Dunes, and then the desert. We arrived at Bonnie's (our sister-in-law's) in Yuma about 5:30pm. A great homemade dinner and lots of conversation. We are staying here until Thursday morning. I believe that we will be traveling outside of the country today! ...

Time to move and get closer to CA. Took scenic route 89A thru Jerome (a neat little city we want to go back to) and Yarnell, AZ which was still reeling from their recent fire that burned many homes and killed 19 firefighters. We joined I-10 at Quartzite, AZ and spent the night in Ehrenberg, AZ which is at exit #1 in AZ and on the Colorado River.

Before leaving the next morning, we visited a Pioneer Cemetery to geocache and a Fresh ...

San Diego - The Airport and Zoo await us!

... of the grounds from the entrance, allowing us to work backwards through the Zoo. One of the first stops was the Polar Bear sanctuary, and MAN, those things are absolutely MASSIVE! Their heads alone are the size of a Smart Car and they're utterly gorgeous creatures, simply stunning to look at. We enjoyed the whole Zoo, and if it weren't for there being billions of moaning little children around, it would have been even better. I guess ...
