A series of completely private cabanas set in lush gardens of tropical plants with stone walkways throughout. The cabanas are nicely equipped and very quiet due to the large amount of trees surrounding them. The lodge is a wonderful blend of Ecuadorian construction and art from tropical countries throughout the world. Walking through them the thing that stands out is the extreme attention to detail...the placement of gorgeous plants, the artwork on the walls and in the gardens, and the craftsmanship involved shows an abundance of loving care. And to top it off the property is across the road from a semi-private beautiful beach where they've planted rows of palm trees and constructed hammock shelters.
This is a place designed by an artist and run by clever business people. The development has taken place over a 14 year period and doesn't appear to be slowing down, with plans for wheelchair access to the lodge.
And the food is good--a nice combination.

An then comes an idea. Fredy, our …

Although the Hawaiian beaches we know are gorgeous, this is easily as beautiful as any of them, minus the people …

So I really do have lots of pictures of whales tales. This was the most amazing Whale Watching experience i have ever had. But first the weather. I guess there was a hurrican in Chilie and the USA tole Ecuador that all trips to Isla de plata were canceled because of a possible Tsunimi. Well it finally passed and we were able to go whale watching …

Well no Isla De Plata, no snorkling. The water is to rough to see anything. :( so we decided to go to Los Frailes Beach. Brian read somewhere that this is South America´s 4th most beautiful beach and i agree. The pacific coast with aqua waters, i felt like i was swimming in the carribean. the sun was low and hot, the water was warm and the waves …

Simon: Having spent most of our cash on the island trip, we noticed a small sign on the bar at hotel Mandala that informed us that they did not accept any form of payment other than cash. Hmmm, that old chestnut eh, Ali? Not a problem, this just meant a brief one and quarter hour bus ride to the nearest town with an ATM. And back again. Naturally, …
