The End of the World

... them. I finish with the shower, and when I step down, oh ****. Water everywhere on the floor. Apparently I hadn´t closed the curtain all the way and water was coming out the back of the shower. Guess what? Pants and longjohns were soaked! So instead of my legs being nice and warm today, I was wearing some light pants meant for much warmer temperatures. It ended up being Ok since we were hiking quite a bit to stay warm, but I could have been warmer!

The End of the World as we know it

... looked at our maps for something a bit more challenging like a mountain. We climbed to almost 900 metres firstly through wooded areas and then we met the snow covered ground a few a third of the way from the summit. This was the challenge we were looking for. We hiked through knee deep snow and lost our way off the trail. We didnt make the summit but we got so close and turned back when the weather turned bad. we walked back through wind and ...

In Ushuaia again

... museum about the convict history and the maritime history of Ushuaia, it turns out this place draws many parallels with Australia and places like port Arthur. The museum is a great day and worthy of spending a good half day there. It is located right in town so you can walk there from most hotels. Tomorrow it's off to the airport and a long day of travel to Lima via Buenos Ares. See ya.

El Fin del Mundo

... a group of Italian musicians met at the hostel were giving a classical brass concert in the (public) hall of the Ushuaia prison. With Giuliano we thought it would be nice, so we went. But once there the room was full, no more seats, and we had to go back. It was a small deception, but well, I have see the entrance hall of the Ushuaia prison. :) Well, in this ****** ambiance and despite the superb landscapes, I was happy to leave Ushuaia. I really should have stayed in Punta Arenas! :)

Bus to el fin del mundo The end of the world

... a hangover from hell. Went to breakfast sat with someone from the bar the night before. Then met Marsha (Holland) with whom I spent the whole day talking. We shared a mate. I went for a siesta. Then we walked to get money passport stamps and food to make for dinner. Before cooking dinner we went out to walk town and take pictures of the mountains during sunset. The sun and clouds didn't cooperate like I had wanted. It was very windy and ...

Wow ! What a Ride

... sit on the bikes for a photo. Asking us if we really drove from Canada. Big hand shakes, pats on the backs, thumbs up and smiles. We take our pictures and finally escape the masses. Mike and I knuckle tap as we ride away from the sign. The gravel road twists and the dust causes my eyes to water. As we leave the park we cross an old wooden clad bridge the loose boards rattle under our moving tires and I swear the bridge is applauding............................. ... .

CHAPTER 2: YOU SAY PAMPAS, I SAY NAPPIES

... of San Francisco or Dirty Harry. I can just picture some hulking great Oldsmobiles launching themselves off the crests, with standard Police issue Crown Victoria's in strobed pursuit. The only catch in filming a similar series here is that you would need the world's most efficient police force, requiring that they engage, pursue and apprehend the baddies within 3 blocks. I did say it was a small town. Views from the glacier / top of the ski run are wonderful and we even ...

Down, Down, Down, to the Burning Land of Fire.

... for viewing them up close was to stay low and slowly edge closer. Eventually we were within 1-2 feet from the pack before we went to peak inside a few of their nests. Here we are at the End of the World, 13,000km from home, lying on a beach with thousands of penguins. Wow! (see pictures). Ushuaia is a very cool place and one day, perhaps during ski season, we would love to return. The lamb, the mountains, the sea, and of course the thousands of ...
