"Some people like to deceive you While others may feel that they need you But I do the best that I can I keep my world in my hands" Life seems to accelerate two-fold when I'm travelling. Except when I find out at 8:55 that my 9am bus is delayed until 1pm. So I have some unexpected time to write here in the bus terminal. Cusco is one of those places that has entire guidebooks written for one region. I tried to do it in 3.5 days. What this forces me to do is make quick decisions and not pass up...
Cusco, Peru cmjArrived in Cusco about 6 in the morning. We were all shattered and had to look for a hostel looking like we´d been dragged through a hedge backwards. Most of the places we tried first were either booked up or fairly ******. Edd and Lou then found a nice enough little place called Hostel Resbalosa about 4 million breath robbing steps from the main Plaza. Cusco is over three thousand metres above sea level and it was absolutley amazing how it makes you feel to walk up a few steps with a backpac...
Cusco, Peru conlouThis week I had my final three days teaching the children at Chachani Village near Arequipa from the Monday to the Wednesday ... I can´t believe a month in Arequipa has gone by so quickly and it was rather sad to be leaving both the kids and the volunteer house behind . Arequipa has been a very rewarding experience aswell as a lot of fun ... wish I had even more time to stay longer but there are so many other places I still want to see before this fantastic year is over and time is pressing o...
Cuzco, Peru garygapyearSlept in pretty late on the Wed morning as I was so tired after the trek , not surfacing until about mid-day. Met up at lunchtime for some food with Ulli , my German amigo , who was still in Cuzco after rafting & Machu Picchu trips but leaving later that day. Would really like to think I will see some of my travel friends again in the not so distant future ... who knows , if I end up in Germany next year , perhaps through work again for example , it would be good to get Ulli to show me th...
Cuzco, Peru garygapyearAwoke to not so stiff legs fortunately. Had to check out of our hostal and move into another one just down the street. We had a late lunch at a cafe which would not be out of place in Wellington. Here we met up with the Irish girls from the Inca Trail. Yay! We visited San Blas church which was the first church in Cusco. It was built over an Incan sanctuary in the 16th century. The wooden pulpit is so intricately designed... and they say the carver´s skull sits on top. We then did a spot of sh...
Cusco, Peru petrm... with a free audio visual guide so I was able to appreciate it all the better.
So, I´ve got my ticket for Puno, I´m travelling on the luxury class Inka Express service which includes a buffet lunch, free tea and coffee on board with a hostess with the mostess to serve you, and a number of touristy stops along the way. This is the last place along the trek that you can buy snacks and drinks.

DAY 02 : WAYLLABAMBA – PACAMAYO

We will wake up at about 6:00 am and after breakfast we will leave Wayllabamba behind and begin the most difficult part of the trek. Following the left bank of the Llulluchayoc River for about 1 hour brings you to ‘Tres Piedras’ (three stones) and a small ...
