Kotosh Ruins

Thursday, 7th June,2007 To get to Kotosh we took a mototaxi up the very rough road the bus had travelled yesterday. It was far worse than the bus, and our arms and legs nearly got shaken off ! The ruins are well worth a visit. The main building is the Temple of Crossed Hands, which has replicas of the original mud hands. There are other sets of walls and buildings, still under restoration. The ruins were discovered in 1936 but not investigated until 1960, by a team of Japanese archaeologists....

Day 125 - Cusco - Chillin in Cusco

... back to the other pharmacy, got my money back and returned here to buy them and save 9 soles, enough for a potential meal tonight. I felt pleased and satisfied with myself for this small but important saving.

Later we went back to the South American Explorers club to catch up on some emailing, went back to our accommodation to retire. Christie and I went out to grab some takeaway kebabs and chips for 4.90 soles each for Jody and Niamh and we retired.

... sandals and their ponchos (no rain gear), and with one of the horsemen being 54 years old! Puts us to shame! Porridge AND omlettes for breakfast (wow) ready for our big climb for the day which would take 5-6 hours all uphill... it was very misty so we could not actually see the top of the mountain we were climbing which in a way it was quite nice, as I kept saying that the top of the mist was the top of the mountain, even though it never was! We stopped for a snack lunch ...

... temples.

Our first day in the city we just wandered around taking in all the sights and partaking in a bit of shopping. We went into the cathedral of Santo Domingo which was built in the 17th century on the walls of the Qoricancha, Temple of the Sun. The cathedral was quite amazing as inside you can see five chambers of the Temple of the Sun, which shows the best Inca stonework in Cusco. We learnt quite a bit about the Inca`s in the ...

For me, it´s a simple trade off, because Cusco is the tourist mecca of Peru and with ...
