No Inca Trail for me :(

... food´. i dont feel 100 percent yet and my stomach is still going grrrrrrr. i´m dissapointed but there´s nothing i can do about it.
For 3 months i worked my butt off to lose 25 lbs, i ate healthy and worked out at the gym harder than i ever have in my life all so i would be fit to do the Inca Trail. I will still get to see Machu Pichu, but it won´t be the same. I´ve missed out on an experience of a lifetime. But i think things happen for a reason, so perhaps if i would ...

Lima, Cusco and Ollantaytambo

... have the time of my life.

My first view of Cusco came after an hour in to the flight as we flew over the peak of a mountain, there was a large expanse of buildings, blending in to the reddy brown mountains surrounding it, we circled round before our sharp descent. I kept thinking this is going to be amazing! As the plane came in to land I noticed some locals washing their clothes in a river and some children playing on the banks, wow I thought this really is going ...

The Inca Trail and Beyond

... even some lakes so its quite interesting. There are permanent campsites along the way and different groups camp at different sites to spread the load. I think there can be up to 300 trekkers each day but the week we were there it was closer to 200 (still a lot though and you never feel like you are alone in the bush). The hardest day was definitely the second day because you climb for 4 hours, up almost 1000m to 4200m, back down 700m, up another 500m and down again ...

Atemlos auf 3400m.ü.M

... br>Atemlos

hiking, cows and pigs

Yesterday we took a bus to Pisac. The market there on Sundays is huge. It was so big we got lost in it. Then we went up to the inca ruins and terraces which were absolutely amazing. We hiked around for hours. It got pretty difficult at times, because of the altitude, but it was worth it. I wish I could describe it in words, but you´ll just have to wait for pictures. Sorry! Or ...

We need to take care of our environment

... all of the kids walked to church for Sunday mass. Then Estela and I watched a movie tonight. I didn’t do much today, but tomorrow begins the work. Looks like I will be painting tomorrow. I am ready to get started. The kids are all real friendly. The goal is to know their names. That might be hard but I am going to try. I am also looking forward to tomorrow because I am going to shower. The last shower was Friday night at Jose’s house. I am in need of one cold or not.
In this place we’ll meet the support team that will travel along with us (porters and cooks). Today the trek will be quite easy, with a beautiful view of the snow-capped peak Veronica during the first kilometres, and along the shores of the Vilcanota ...

One year on the road - Machu Picchu

Well, nothing about Cuzco or Machu Picchu surprised me much.

Cuzco is touristy as hell. Obviously. It´s not to say you won`t find locals, local things and local prices within a short walk of the main plazas, but the sheer volume of tourists is astounding.Yes it has many colonial buildings, nearby Inca ruins, fine architecture and an interesting history. What did i do for my 1 day either side of Machu Picchu? I watched probably a dozen movies in the hostel, planned ...
