Ollantaytambo and Halloween in Cusco

... to spiderman. The plaza and the surrounding city was full of life and excitement and I have never seen so many people gathered in one place. We ate dinner and enjoyed some live music in San Blas. Luckily we found a taxi, but when we arriuved back home, the party continued outside our bedrrom window until 4am. I got little sleep from the noise, excitement of the day and anticipation of finally seeing my husband after 4 weeks of travelling!
The 10 1/2 hour trek - Corimarca to Ancascocha

... for the rest of the trek.

An hour after leaving the lunch site we arrived at a short stop area, it was here the group were huddled for a quick briefing, we were told that although the remainder of the trek was down hill we would now be heading through some dangerous terrain, Jenny was clear that we needed to listen to instructions carefully as the paths we would now be walking would be on the edge of cliffs with some very steep drops, those in the ...

Cusco on the down-low

The city center of Cusco (or Cuzco, depending on your level of hip) is filled with Colonial architecture, entry to which is lumped into one big ticket price for all historical places of interest within the city. This kind of treatment is the way of life in Peru's touristic capital, the best of which we've received from our surrogate mother, Sonia, at Hostel La Casa de mi Abuelo. Apart from paying more for everything except lodgings, we've ...

3 Miles High

... the most comfortable nights of sleep that the alarm rings so early. This time it was 3:30am and it was our 5th and final day.
We donned our ponchos and headed out in the sleepy, rainy dankness to climb the 1900 uneven steps that stood between us and the lost city of the Incas. Morning broke and the sun illuminated what time had hidden for 500 years. Low, gray stratus clouds obscured the higher portions of the massive city and the mist made the ...

"I got a pain in my shest and I can´t breaf"

... looks from people sharing the love I quickly moved on. I tried to be bougie and go to some museums but they were all being remodeled. After getting my fill of walking around Lima I headed for Cuzco. On the way however our bus crashed. Yes, thats right crashed. Apparently we were turning a corner on a mountain road and another bus hit us from the side. All of this occured without my knowledge because I was on the top level of the bus and I had taken some sleeping pills. Imagine my ...

Try a Pisco Sour while on vacation in Peru

... a genuine part of the country’s national heritage.

The cocktail is based around pisco and lime juice, along with a helping of whisked up egg white. The drink was created by adding the 'sour’ element in the English style through various ingredients that counteract the acidity of the small key lime used in the drink. The classic recipe is based on 3 ounces of pisco, 1 ounce of green lime juice to add the acidity, 1 ounce of ...

Coolest parade ever, market, and live music

... chocolate, clothes, souvenirs, fish, and meat (including cow feet, heart, frogs, and lots of other strange things). We spent a lot of time here just taking pictures. Got some boiled corn that was gigantic and delicious. Then we walked around town looking for a hair-dryer for a while. That was fun. ( : We then got some food at a great little pizza place with a cool clay oven. Had a giant ...

Machu Picchu to Cuzco

... have loved it! Today we were climbing pretty much the whole way from Aguas Calientes to Cuzco, but they seemed to run along easily. At one point we even had a switch back to make it over a pass, I guess. They stopped, switched, backed, switched again, and then we were on our way once more.

The following is a description of the trip from the Peru Rail web site. We traveled in the opposite direction as described here, but it would be a pretty trip in ...
