Sacred Valley

Holla everyone, Joey and i are still in cusco. Today we did a day trip to the sacred valley to see some ruins. It is amazing that these little Incas can build such large structures. We had an English speaking tour guide so we understood about 50% of what he was saying. We made friends with a french Canadian who introduced us to an alternative trail that leads to Manchu pitch. We decided to do it. We are going to leave our hostel at 7am tomorrow and for 3 nights and four days hike up and down ...

Long time no type.

Ive been in cusco about a week and a half now after the trauma of lima (dont ever go there) ... Ive been having spanish classes at wiracocha spanish school in san blas which is very good, met some cool people including someone with a pilots licence who served in iraq and an insane student from cardiff uni. Good times. I was going to do a trek to machu picchu but its hard to even walk upstairs here so that is now going to happen somewhere breezy low and flat. I love cuzco but im very restless ...

Mummies, Canyons, and Condors in Arequipa

A ten hour bus ride took me from Cusco to Arequipa, Peru. If you are taller than 5 feet, I highly recommend not taking such a long bus ride with Cromotex. This was by far the most uncomfortable bus ride I have been on during the whole trip. There was absolutely no place for my legs. It's times like these it would be convenient to have detachable legs so you can just store them neatly under your chair. I arrived in Arequipa around 5am and was immediately met with the usual taxi/hotel peddlars....

Peru, day 11

Day 11 30-06-07 Check out of the Casa Andina and into the Hostel Touristico de San Blas. As we walk to the hostel. Jon sees a place to rent motorcycles, so w head back there and sign up for a tour of the Sacred Valley tomorrow. It should be interesting. We walk all over Cuzco, checking out churches and plazas, and shops. We buy some corn from a street vendor. By Iglesia de San Pedro there is a huge open air market that pretty much sells everything: clothes that ladies are making right there o...

INCA TRAIL TO MACHUPICCHU 2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT

... before the main group of visitors arrives. Going up by bus we get the first glance of Machu Picchu between the mountains on its saddle high over the Urubamba River. Upon arrival we start the guided tour of about 2 hours taking us to the most important areas of Machu Picchu. We will learn about the importance – religiously and historically – of the place, and we will be able to appreciate the fine ...

Cusco, Coca,Cuy and Cusqueña

... world working in different kitchens for 2 years.

Apart from eating weird animals and visiting churches, the only thing left to do at the end of day is to pull up a stool at one of the many saloons surounding the Plaza de Armas, and order up a fat bottle of Cusqueña, watch the goat ladies, pastry sellers and whistling traffic police go about their daily busness and smile. I don´t like towns and cities in general, but Cusco has a charm of it´s own....

Cusco – Salkantay – 70 km – Pach

... we didn’t have to carry or put up tents. Basically all we had to do was walk, which was pretty tough in and of itself, but not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. It wasn’t until day four after 15k and at the bottom of the mountain that we had climbed earlier that morning that I started to feel some hip pain. But the next day I was all set for Machu Picchu and Waynapicchu. But I am getting ahead of myself.

... with my travel insurance, which I checked and was, so that was a relief it would have been an awful lot of money to lose.

So Will got up at 5ish to be ready for his pick up, he had gone out and bought us sim cards so we could contact one another while he was gone.
He text me about 8 to tell me that there was a train strike on Wednesday which meant that their trek would be ended on Tuesday in the after noon and I could go meet them in Ollayantambo and carry on with ...

The center of the Inca Empire

... Puno. In Puno, women wear traditional clothing as part of their life. Here in Cusco, vendors wear them for tourists, and children wear them to have their picture taken for a fee. I love taking pictures of people, but not here. In Arequipa and Puno, I felt like I was capturing real moments, a stolen glimpse in a life of someone who lives in a world I am fascinated with. Here in Cusco, kids would approach me telling me to take a ...

Final entry?

... or I'd fall off an edge and die. I didn't fancy either!

My climb was punctuated with regular stops after every two sets of stairs, usually having to give myself at least 30 seconds to catch my breath or sit down. I only passed two sets of people close to the top, the second being a couple of Americans who obliged in taking a photo as one of them said there was no-one else at the top. Somewhat dismayed I got the pic and pressed on regardless.

What greeted me was a pleasant ...
