      ... socialising and catching up with each other. The people we have spoken to are really friendly and have a good chat to you. The elderly ladies in the street usually give you a big smile and say 'Kalimera'.

      We took the little red car and headed off South to look at some temple ruins and some of the beaches. Demeter's Temple ruins were from 500BC with an amazing backdrop of mountains.

      ... face war. The answer was 'No', and Greece was attacked.

      In Naxos Town today all the primary and secondary school children marched and drummed their way to a Cenotaph and laid wreaths. Tomorrow is a public holiday and the whole town celebrates.

      We hired yet another small car and set off north around the coast over more hills and fertile valleys and climbed up to the tops of rocky, misty mountains ...

      It seems so much easier to meet people on the road than in Vancouver. I still don't quite understand what it is about VanCity that makes people keep their distance. Robert hesitated awkwardly before inviting the Dutch to dinner. It was so nice to plan a spontaneous get-together, not having to provide two weeks' notice to ensure there are no schedule conflicts. Another benefit of travel.
