          Driving into CA, everyone has to stop at an inspection station where they check your car for anything that might hurt the environment -bugs, plants, etc. While we were there, we had to ask the Ranger what time it was to make sure we were finally accurate.           ... right down to the beach and the fairways and greens are beautiful. Everything else is brown due to the 2 year draught they are in but they were pooring water on the rest of it.
          We drove over to I-5 from the coast and went through one really steep hilly area that might as well have been desert. Those roads had both of us holding our breath. Lots of curves and switchbacks with no guard rail. We survived and are glad to be out of that. ...
