Friday 23rd January Ballarat to Melbourne Back to the shambles that is the Hotel Discovery.. Tried to get an alternative, but a combination of the open tennis and Australia day made it hopeless.. At least the drive in was painless. I passed the racecourse at Flemington and made it to the car hire depot early. And no 'Hook turns'! They have a strange rule only in Melbourne where at certain junctions you can only turn right from the left hand side of the road... This is so that the trams are no...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand dave22We travelled up to Picton for our ferry trip over to the North Island. Picton is a really nice place, but the main attraction is the ferry port. We travelled by the Interislander Ferry, which was great and the crossing was very picturesque and (thankfully for JP!) calm!!!! Wellington really lives up to its name of the Windy City - great place and the weather was lovely, but the constant wind took some getting used to!! While we were in Wellington it was the Wellington Sevens (Friday and Satur...

Greetings to all. We hope you are all healthy & happy, despite the UK's high rainfall & flooding.
As some of you noticed, I have been fairly busy... For those of you unaware of my recent achievements (in my dreams) I've attached a link (they made mistake with the photo):

Last night was our last night in the hostel. We were pretty excited to get out of there and move into our new place. Danny and I went to try out to the burger joint just below our hostel and had some amazing burgers. Mac's Brewery is one of the famous beer places in town here so Danny and I also splurged on a Sassy Red Mac's beer. We picked up Liz and Mari in the room after the meal and headed downstairs to play some Bingo. Every night the ...

The weather wasn't any better than a day before. After having a quick stroll on the Whitecliffs walkway, which can be accessed only at low tide, I slowly started realizing that Mt. Taranaki will be covered up in clouds whole day. Area around Mt. Taranaki is unique as there are not many places in the world where you can go swimming in the sea and skiing in mountains in one day. There was no point in driving ...
... displays and how they believe the earth was formed. Full of culture and knowledge we left the museum in search of an apparent all you can eat Asian restaurant. When we found it we went to town on the buffet and literally couldn't finish our plates. We decided to be lazy and go to the cinema and after that we had an early night because we had to catch the 8.35am ferry to Picton on the south island the next morning.
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand alandrach... we need it. In the end they decided that the problem was fixable after all and sorted. Praise God. Then we when we got home, I flipping lost the travel card. But don't worry it's nice and clean now after a heavy wash in the washing machine. Man I'm going to miss lil old Wellytown. Now you be good!!!!See ya in Bangkok.
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand scpritchardTime to catch up! Having given our lovely van back wewere taken in to our hotel. We stayed in Christchurch at the Chateauin the Park, which looks slighly off putting from outside but, inside all was excellent, our room , we were given a 'suite', and breakfast. We had a pleasant wander around Christchurch and found a good indian to eat at, Two Fat Indians, and ...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand geoffbid... impressive, but it was still interesting to see them in the 'real' world. The following day was the day of the big arrival and there was still a distance to travel and some interesting animals to see. Before we left the camp site, we visited the Kiwi House located behind. There, among other animals we had our first glimpse of a Kiwi, although not a wild one. These were in a room with controlled lighting, so the nocturnal animals would sleep ...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand nick.maynard... office and to my relief the ferry voucher had been sent up from Christchurch to wait for me.
Of all the things that annoy me most, the social faux pas that really, really gives me a serious case of the irrits has to be when people cycle through their mobile phone ring tones at full volume in a constrained public area like a bus, train or, in this case, ferry. Though the new phones with polyphonic ring tones aren’t so bad, it should still be the kind of ...
