Sleep, Sleep and More Sleep

I got sick. Real sick. So instead of going into Washington DC the past two days I have been sleeping. And sleeping. Watching tv. More sleeping. Eating. Sleeping. You get the point.

I just woke up Thursday and my throat was all swollen, had a hard time breathing and my whole body ached. Threw up. Fever.

Pretty bummed because I had so much ...

... He Lies, He Lies." We walked from the capital over to the White House area and met our friend Craig for dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. While we waited for a table we were entertained by some man who appeared to have been drinking there most of the day. He was temporarily very happy. We had a great time with Craig again catching up on old times and returned to his home to see the puppies one last time before calling it a day.

Modesty Shields

... war general. It was insightful to me as in his writings and spoken words he struggled between placing his loyalties with the government, city and nation that he loved or his home state and family. Reluctantly, he chose the later one. We found it curious that Lincoln chose that land for a civil war cemetery (after it had been confiscated for back taxes). The final irony was no Confederates were buried there until ...

Boston through the eyes of a foreigner

... lived in Syracuse for four years, I couldn't even handle the freeze up there anymore. But anyway, it was interesting to see Boston with her. She mentioned before we got into town that one of her friends advised her to visit Boston because it's a big American city that is the most remniscent of European cities. I had never thought of that before, but it's really quite true. I suppose just because it's one of our oldest, most historical cities ... the buildings are ...

Chilling with the mayor-elect

... I didn't actually walk the trail yet, but I did stop into some of the local businesses, such as Pfeiffer's hardware store. Not only did I need nails, but also Pfeiffer's (and some of the other shops) had joined in on the celebration by offering free cider to anyone who came in. I was really tempted to try the pupusas being offered at one of the local restaurants too, but decided I was just go home for some soup. And now I wish I lived in Mt. Pleasant.

Eastern Market and the Mall

... purse, but I can't justify the expense. I do wish I'd had a little cash on me to buy some mulled wine. Ah well. When I was done with the market, I went off in search of a nice park in which to read my book. I never settle for the first park, though, so this being D.C. and all, I somehow ended up on the National Mall. It was so amazing because I was just meandering down this residential street and stumbled across the Folger Shakespeare Library, one ...
