With some trepidation we arrived in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). We'd been told many things about this place by friends and colleagues who'd been here, mostly revolving around the insane roads. Apparently the place is overrun with traffic that weaves in and out across the large roads, often using pavements as short cuts and ignoring any traffic signals. So as we like pottering about (walking) we expected to hate the place.
The roads didn't seem too bad when we came in by taxi...

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam mike_hWell, our trip has about 5 days left. We are out of laundry for sure. I've started buying tshirts and more Thai pants in an attempt to make it through to January 2nd without having to do laundry. Right now, we're in Ho Chi Minh for a few hours more. The past five days have been busy. While in Ho Chi Minh, we booked a tour to the Mekong Delta and rode a boat up and around the four islands (Dragon, Phoenix, Unicorn, and Turtle). I think I already wrote about this...we ended up leaving the tour ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam molly.m.fannin3 Cool days in Saigon! What a bustling city, you've never seen so many scooters in one place!! (Over 3 million of them on the roads here apparently) And the traffic rules are nuts! Still havn't figured out if there are any actually! We've made it to an exclusive Vietnameese restaraunt called Tuan and Tu's (which you actually have to go down a small alley and knock on a door with nothing more than a name plate on it.) Apparently local celebs eat there, though unfortunately none of were sure of...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam nate_and_katMostly Melted... That would be the best way to describe us over the past week. We have hit hot sunny weather and have managed to not burn...very badly at least. We were traveling fairly fast and spent only a few days at Nha Trang, Mui Ne and Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon) and the surrounding Mekong Delta. Nha Trang: Since this is our first beach destination of the trip and it happened to coincide with hot sunny weather, we wondered if we'd found a small slice of paradise. Even though the town ...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam reaandtim... for quite some time. I was just rather relieved it wasn’t me!
Meanwhile back in Saigon or as it’s now known Ho Chi Minh we were tucking into some Pho. A rather tasty Vietnamese broth. We decided to attempt to defy death crossing the busiest road junction ever. There are no traffic lights or pedestrian crossings anything like that - just simply a sea of bikes and you just have to walk. Slowly and steadily and the million or so bikes just swerve around ...

Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam chudu24... 2 Vietnamese clubs where we were a minority being one of only a few Westerners... again! Jo and I stumbled in at 6am with the others in a deep slumber already.
So today has been day for resting and fighting off our hang overs. We went to the markets and got shouted at by a stall owner when we tried to haggle down a price of a purse... she whipped us with her purse and screamed at us to go away!! Much to our ...
... is new. This is the upland area of Vietnam with lots of natural forests which are being stripped at an alarming pace, and waterfalls. So I agreed to go and visit the waterfall without thinking it through completely – spontaneity is everything – “JUST WADZ”. Anyway what I had not factored into the equation was the descent into lush forest cover to see the pool at the bottom of the waterfall and the fact that ...
