... Nakatsugawa, including a ride on the world-famous Shinkansen (Bullet Train) to Nagoya. At Nakatsugawa, you board a local bus for the short journey to Magome. There is a walk of around 3.5 hours over Magome Pass to Tsumago, one of the best-preserved and most evocative of the Nakasendo post-towns. Overnight at a family-run minshuku in Tsumago, with a delicious home-cooked Japanese dinner and breakfast included. After dinner, enjoy a stroll ...

Technically it is not a difficult climb -provided that the weather is fine- but altitude sickness is ...

... to a volcano was not appealing. So on our final night here, instead of sheltering in a mountain hut in the middle of a typhoon, we had a nice Thai meal and then went on to murder music in the karaoke across the road! Frustratingly, when we awoke the next morning and drew back the curtains, there was Mount Fuji in all its glory. I'm glad to have seen it but it's hard not to be disappointed we mistimed our visit by just 24 ...

... paying to perhaps avoid Japan Jail. This is one time when I felt not knowing the language kept us from communicating and defending ourselves. But this was just a food experience and we weren't going to let this get in the way of our fun. In general people have been so nice. As we tell people of this experience, they apologize even though they had nothing to do with it. Lesson learned: order from restaurants that have picture ...
