... of the local sumo stables. It was fascinating to see these wrestlers, mostly novices, spar in test matches and do drills pushing each other around the ring! Often lean, strong wrestlers would best the heavy ones; we’re hoping to catch a professional match later on to see how different it is! We then swung by the morning fish market for a breakfast of very fresh sushi, and spent a while browsing the hundreds of stalls at the market itself. ...

Piece of cake!!!

I climbed with 2 American's, Jeff and Nath. Jeff was fully equipped (which turned out to be very helpful), whilst Nath and I looked more like pathetic backpackers. Our outfit was crunched together with everything our backpacks had to offer for such an adventure.

We started off happily with a bit of rain and apart from our three head-torches in total darkness!

... are purely for relaxing in the hot mineral water and segregated by sex as you do not wear anything whilst soaking. The third type, which Rod and I used are the private onsen. For a fee, you can book a small private onsen, to enjoy together privately. It is the only way that men and women can share an onsen, otherwise they are all segregated. It was a great way to relax after our hike and melted away the aches and pains!

8 km walk from walk Magemo to Tsumago.

The guide book and the tourist information centre told me that it would take 3hours to walk it.
However I only had 2, as I got up way to late to actually do this walk. What can I say i did it in 1 1/2 hours :)
