We had another great day driving, up the 101 Pacific Coast Hwy. Fortunately there was quite a bit of freeway, so didn't have to do too much country driving. We passed a lot of strawberry farms and citrus/avocado/ grapes as well as small crops like broccoli, peas, corn and tomatoes. They are in the middle of a drought so the hills were dry and mostly brown. ... rises out of the sea rather magnificently. Basically Morro Bay was a bit of a chill out for us we were a 15 min walk to town so used the opportunity to not drive (seriously Americans drive EVERYWHERE) and explore this cute little town. I spent many of the first 3 hours pacing a young soldier across various climbs. At times we couldn't climb any faster than 2 miles per hour. That particular soldier made it all 93 miles. Out of 200 + riders I finished the ride with the last 10 riders ...

... it as we drive along the highway - first continuing along the 101, then taking highway 1 once we reach San Luis Obispo. Driving along, we pass an area bathed in a strange light, and see signs pointing out to a "men's colony" - hmmmm.... is this the local jail?

Thankfully Morro Bay is now quite close, and we are able to pull into our motel and check in. We are only here for one night, but this motel is right on the water, ...
