... to the gates were finally handed over to the French on January 21, 1808 and the Republic of Dubrovnik (or Ragusa, it's former name) came to an end. We walked by many forts including Minceta and Bokar Forts. We took about 45 minutes to walk and take pictures before we arrived at Ploce Gates. ... do half of the city walk but as we passed the kitchen window Alena asked if we'd like to eat dinner with them. Not wanting to offend we sat down, not knowing what was on the menu, but enjoyed a meal of green capsicum stuffed with a mixture of minced meats, rice and oregano sitting in a broth of tomato and stock and with creamy mashed potatoes beside. It was a lovely way to spend our last night on board, and even had a live brass band playing at the nearby resort where we were able to play name that tune – and later when we thought the band had gotten surprisingly louder from our cabin, we realised that they had actually gotten on a boat and were sailing around! Guess that’s life on the water. One more night at sea – wonder what it’s like to sleep on land ...

... the Hilton, by the parking lot. Just outside the gates of the city there are lots of kayak companies selling their wares, but none were "Adriatic Adventures", and none seemed to know where this company's office was. Hmmmm...little stressed wondering if we were duped.
