Sleepy tropical island in the sea of blue...

... Kitts. Im really impressed with him because he's very knowledgeable about the history of St. Kitts. Anyway first he showed us the town of Basseterre-- a gracefully revived town and capital of St. Kitts. After decades of sleepy existence, this elegant and graceful West Indies town was restored from its shabbiness. Now with carefull and sensitive restoration it revealed all the original charm and preserved its Caribbean architecture. Basseterre is now turning out tobe ...

St Kitts - Sounds French it's actually English...

The Island is actually called St Christopher, which I found out after a while. Quite confusing when people talk about St Kitts and all I can find on the charts is a place called Nevis and another island just north called St Christopher. Well after the write up about this island in the cruising guide, proclaiming it to be one of the nicest, most unique islands with spectacular scenery and home to people like Thomas ...

Nevis

The Barrett-O'Keefe's bucked tradition and went to Nevis instead of Hawaii. Overall I would say it was a good decision. The flight was shorter and the time change was minimal. The best part was staying in a beautiful house with our own pool. With the downturn in ...

Cricket Man!!!

... dead rubbers, but St. Kitts is a cricket starved island, and it was always going to be a big party either way!! I arrived on the Wednesday afternoon after stopping over in Miami. Bo Diddly gave me a cab ride to the hotel. Seriously, this guys eyes were just about to pop out of his head. He was nice though, and it became obvious that as soon as a West Indian realises you're Australian, they want ...

9th Anniversary was a Great Day!

... Back in Frigate Bay for dinner, we went to the Shikkity Shack on the beach and had lobster and ribs. Reasonable prices there as we total was about $70 including drinks and tip. There was live music and entertainment including the local mythical FIRE MAN. He swallows fire, breathes fire like a dragon and does the limbo under fire pole. It was very surreal as they played the Fire Man Raggae song and all of the locals sing along. We are off to ATV in the jungle today, Friday.

Landed in St Kitts arond 2PM on 4/30. Hotel is big, plantation style. We received lots of extra high five favors upon arrival including backback with sunscreeen, hat, visors, snacks, etc. I jumped into the Atlantic ocea for the 1st time as our hotel sits on the east side of island. St. Kitts - Paul left without us!

... is not Aruba." And, when we got back to the pier, Paul was waiting at the boarding area. He claimed he looked for us, and decided we went back without him when he didn't see us. We don't think he looked very much, because we were right there, practically where he left us. Saturday night was formal night at dinner. We had much better food the second night. Our waiters were excellent, again. After dinner we had our portrait taken, then ...

Country No. 91: St. Kitts

... Cafe (more like a cafeteria). In late afternoon, there is a "Dog Tag Dance Party" right at the main swimming pool. The theme is military of course. It is ironic that St. Kitts government actually ban civilians and tourists wearing anything in camouflage (Is this island of 40,000 really afraid of military coup? ). So the partygoers, many of them in camouflage, are warned not to wander out of the ship. Now that is ...

The islands of St Kitts and Niamhus

... from revolt, planters had created divisions between slaves but this was no longer of any benefit when slavery was legally abolished in the British Empire in 1833. The law was implemented in 1834 but complete freedom didn't come until 1838. At this point, the British West Indies (BWI) was no longer able to compete in the suger market with other sugar producers. In an attempt to rescue the sugar industry in St Kitts, the government nationalized all sugar lands and ...
