... is made and distributed in Switzerland - not sure if I like knowing that Cheese lasts for a year or not, but it was still quite awesome bc we ate lunch here and everything was full of awesome cheese!

It has been a great start so far - our program has 33 students from all over and it has been fun getting to know everyone and seeing how University life differs in Europe from the U.S!

... quite close to the town centre. It is a very nice hotel and the weather (although not a nice as last week) is great! Went to the hotel restaurant on the first night - amazing french onion soup! And then a really lovely Italian restaurant called La Piazzetta - cheap and really nice pasta!

Off to Bregenz for the weekend and then back again to Bludenz for another 2 nights!

Day 283 2 hrs, 7 kms The valley continues. A narrowing strip of lush green grass surrounded by wooded slopes and cliffs, interrupted by classic Alpine villages with large, immaculately decorated chalets... But they're not all independent towns, so I can only count one of them. The trail markings aren't as good as in Switzerland (here I am, comparing again!) and I end up at a dead ...

    1730. A New Valley Civilization

, Day 283 2 hrs, 8 kms After St Anton, the atmosphere changes dramatically from fancy touristy towns to very authentic farm villages. The valley doesn't get very wide, but it's enough for folks to grow grass and feed their dairy cattle. Another thing I notice here in Austria are a lot of women out in the fields doing very physically demanding tasks like raking and tossing hay with large rakes. But they ...
