Bogota - Colombia

... and in many embassies it takes only a couple of hours if you go in person (it´s instant in some places)" So we arrive on Wed night, even though we´re not flying til Sunday night, so we have 2 full working days to get it sorted. Err, wrong Mr Guidebook writer, try minimum 4 days not including weekends. And also not included is a description of what has to be the world´s most arrogant, officious, beaurocratic w*nker, who works at the Brazilian ...

We Made it to South America!!!

... 20 cents each and we got to see the entire city as we drove in. The driver let us know when to get off at La Candelaria and we found ourselves in an old square with a market for locals. As we strolled around I felt for the first time in a long time that I had no agenda. We had 5 hours before we needed to be back at the airport and it had only taken us half an hour to get downtown by bus. <br ...

Boggy Boggy Boggy! Oi oi oi!

... The only heart in mouth moment was when... I lost a flip-flop! One of my beautiful, well-worn Havaianas from 4 years ago in Brazil. I slipped on a rock and dropped one into the water, only to watch it float rather rapidly downstream. Disaster.... Fortunately, there was a large pool not too far away and it was retrieved to my utmost joy and relief. Phew.

That afternoon I headed for the nearby town of Barichara, another of these restored colonial towns. This one is particularly ...

First couple of days in Bogota

OK its been a while since I have written this blog and I apologixe for the interruption but a lot of stuff has been going on since we got into Columbia.... When we left Fontibon in the morning, we decided that we would stay in Bogota for a couple of days - the plan was that we were going to stay a night or two in Bogota, ride to Medellin, come back to hang with Candi our freind from Paris when he arrived in Bogota on the 15th and then ...

Why San Gil?

... ever-so-interested in learning more about others and sharing the delights of their region. For people, San Gil also offers a growing-number of foreigners attracted to the adventure opportunities. All this to say...a great place to stay! :) Paul p.s. San Gil is known among Colombians as a "vacation getaway" location--very popular during Christmas and January holidays, and during "Semana Santa" (Holy Week preceding Easter).

Colombia part 2

... and amazing. The views were spectacular and our guide Carlos was wonderful. Overall it was a great experience. From there we left for party central! That's right, Medellin. Although we had a big night out most of my time here was muy tranquilo. The Zona Rosa, or club zone is absolutely beautiful and the clubs are crazy. Medellin is known for the drinking and parties and many travelers get stuck in the hangover cycle. They say they are ...

La Pintada

... just before it closes. Whilst here we met a family who invited us to a meal with them, the husband could speak quite a lot of English whilst the children could speak some. It was a very pleasant evening all told Xmas day itself was very busy and noisy at the pool and as I write this they are putting up decorations for the New Year which arrives tonight. I will end here as we are moving once again tomorrow and want to post this today.
