Never have I ever

... to pay attention. Wow did I ever pay attention. I really was not sure what to expect but it was really strange. First of all we show up and it began an hour after it was supposed to. There were 10 cases that were supposed to be heard by the judge in the morning. Everyone was there. There was no separate court room for anyone. The court room was small and there were files from previous cases all over. They were piled high on ...

A night I don't even believe

... I really do have the site of my dreams!.
Well this weekend we have a college from Manila here for an immersion project. Here in Olongapo City there is a very large night life with GRO's (guest relations officers) so in order for about 20 college students to pass they have a street immersion project. It began on Friday with gender sensitivity training and a discussion of the laws that support women. It was a pretty normal Friday until we went bar ...

Meeting a Philippino family

... Ni(2) Cor(corinthians) shi(4) indicates 2Cor. chapter4 related to a verse, ".. treasure in earthen vessel". Senzin means saints in Japanese. We had a sweet time in the fellowhip of life which was very refreshing.

Not often we meet a person leaves you with sweet impression and today we met those kind of people by the Lord's arrangement. we will remember them and pray for them that we run the race together.

Tree Top Adventure

... faced the Superman Ride. First you go feet first then head then the other way. It was like a flying fox but you were attached onto the wire. It was a like being an acrobat. First I was scared so we screamed. But it was fun afterwards.

Then we went on the Treeking Adventure. A guide told us that a jungle was a pharmacy and a market. He told us to be careful for snakes, wild boars and poisonous ivy.

Childhood revisited

... to eat healthy foods. Rice is the most popular food served. They have a saying here that if it is not served with rice it is not a meal. So eating rice and an ulam (main dish) is necessary at every meal!
Besides my family and food life in the provinces was pretty slow. We had language class in the morning and technical class in the afternoon. There were 5 other peace corps volunteers in my language class and 10 other volunteers in my technical class ...

Dark Chocolate Day - Bitter-Sweet-Self-indulging

... to the lagoon. Just a few meters from the beach was this clear-greenish pool - if there's such a thing - with the lush pines as its backdrop. It was surreal. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there are little fishes thriving in the lagoon and I was so concerned of walking on them - thus horrendously murder them with my sheer weight. I did not voice that concern because the guys will surely laugh at the scaredy cat girl they've now known me ...

Down to the cove

... the only girl and the least macho of them all, they humored me by letting me pick the most comfortable place to sleep in. After cleaning myself up at the girls' tent, I saw that the guys were already sleeping! Hah! Well, the food is still being cooked; I figured I should rest for a bit too. At around 11pm or so, we were summoned to eat. Because of the strong wind, they had a really hard time cooking. After finishing up some ...

Anawangin Adventure

... surprised to see that there were actually a lot of people that weekend! Lucky us, we got a space near the improvised CR and poso (well). I had fun at Anawangin. This is the first time I've set up a tent and actually felt like a real camper! ;p Our trip from one island to another was a real scare and adventure at the same time! Imagine going against the waves, in a small boat, at the middle of the sea! But ...

We Sing for Inspiration.

... Madonna herself, & Somer claims to be tone deaf but we know that is a lie now. She is great! The trip to Subic was very interesting because one of the vehicles we were taking kept overheating and we had to stop the whole way to put water in it. So hot and so funny. I swear it was like 500 degrees that day! Tomorrow we switch host families again. We were so busy last week I didn't have as much time as I would have like to hang with Andy ...

Typhoon Prapiroon

... We finally arrived in Austin about 36 hours late but glad to be home. Our luggage turned up on the doorstep 3 days later no worse for wear. We had been away from home for 68 days probably about 38 days to many in Frank's opinion but we had a lot of ground to cover. It turned out to be a good trip and hopefully one that my young son will not soon forget. In the future when he hears about China doing this and doing that he will know a little bit more about China than the average Joe.
