... a little in from the lake, but is considered the major village near each port.

I arrived via train to Windermere, took the bus to Bowness-on-Windermere, walked around for a bit before taking the ferry up to Waterhead. I decided to sit top deck to get the best views and consequently froze all the way up haha. My hostel is at Waterhead and is right on the water front. My room has the most amazing views over the lake.

... long enough to photograph the trig point and plaque before turning round and heading back down the hill. Not as easy as it sounds. It was slow going on the way up, on the way down it was a case of having to slow yourself. The walking poles saved me brusing my ass a good number of times. The damp loose scree wasn't the firmest of footings and having 4x4 traction kept me upright all the way to the bottom. A little over four hours start to finish. A bigger mountain next time I ...

... in the relentless conditions for a while, until we lost our path! Unable to see more than about 20 metres the nav was rather tricky, and by now the wind was so severe that I was literally blown off my feet. The driving rain did not help.

So regrettably, we were forced to retreat. At least we had our lovely little cottage in Ambleside to warm up and dry out in!
