Having walked back down to the car, we were all desperate for a wee so we headed to Grange duck pond to use the facilities (at an outrageous 20p each). I hasten to add, we used the public conveniences there not the pond!

Next we headed off to Silverdale (the long way!) for tea and cake at Hazelwood Farm ngs. Bit of a disappointment that the cakes were a little dry and the lady serving them was a tad menopausal but we battled through.

It is a name of a "strong ale" brewed locally in Cumberland. The label says" Be sure to spend your last sixpence wisely!" We left Northumbria today , planning to return in October- so much more to see. Drove across the top of England. England at the north end is only about 80 miles wide. Emperor Hadrian built his wall across from coast to coast after his arrival in 112 AD. John had searched for it once before, in 1989 but failed to find it!! Amazing considering how large it is. Dropped Dawn and Jo's luggage at bus stop and returned to hotel to collect miine. On the road by 10:40. Took A66 to Penrith, and then M6 and A6 to Wetheral - arrived 11:50.
