      We left Redding excited about finally making it out of California and into Oregon. It was a beautiful drive with Mt. Shasta covered with snow...seeing rivers (which I really LOVE) and all the huge evergreens...Just breath taking!       ... detailed layout were far from accurate in places. It was 1st and 2nd gear for much of the way with a couple of places where 4x4 traction was needed through the muddy bits chewed up by the Ford brigade ahead of us. Even so the 40 kms or so of forest Usal Road to the tarred road just east of Shelter Cove on the coast where we planned to stop for the night took us well over 2 hours.
