Thurs - We were surprised at the size of Bangkok, full of skyscrapers, 4-5 lane highways, and neon lights. We stayed in the China Town district of Bangkok where it was bustling, vibrant and delightful. In the morning we walked to the Grand Palace where they have the Emerald Buddha. The Emerald Bhudda is actually made of Jade, but the person who unearthed it thought it was made of emerald... and the name has stuck. The complex was packed with tourists and hundreds ...

The evening concluded with a rather speedy tuk-tuk ride back to the hotel, even with a short interruption by the police at one point as the driver ran a red light! All got back safely though.
Having trouble again uploading photos so will try when I wake up in the morning. ...

... Since then, the closing time of bars was being strictly enforced, so we were back at the hostel by 2 am. The next hour was just lounging in the hostel, and listening to people talk. My observation from watching these kids is that they are amazingly self-obsessed, especially the guys. They just keep talking about themselves. Also, they say something that is not so great about themselves, but then they put in a way that makes them look good. An example, I hear Doug ...

Over the course of our travels so far, we've become accustomed to the long-distance bus journeys it is necessary to take being complete Mickey Mouse operations. The journey from Cambodia to Thailand was no exception. We had booked a sleeper bus (almost fully reclining seats, air con, toilet on board) to take us the full journey from Siem Reap, across the border and onto Bangkok in a single journey. Also included was pick up from our hotel by a tuk-tuk driver to take us to the ...
