This is a view from the rooftop patio at our hostel which was called D&D Inn. It's such a busy street all night long. There are vendors all over, you can get anything from Pad Thai to fried insects!!!

Okay, so we eventually got on the plane after firstly going to the wrong fricking terminal (T5). We got to T4 and were told by BA they had over-booked the flight. Well ****** but just the usual for BA. Take off was at 10.00pm GMT. The flight was long and abit uncomf and we both got no sleep not to mention having odd tummies from consuming all th...

We landed in Thailand with a Bang a Bangkok that is. Stepped off the plane expecting it to be a bad airport but infact it was descent. Through customs and out to get a taxi to Koa San road which was horrible and full of hawkers, to see if there was any space in the wonderful D&D Inn we had heard so much about. There was, but only 2 double be...

Honey, we're home !!!
May 19, 2008 (17 photos)

Our amazing honeymoon, ended with a glorious dinner, that we cooked ourselves as part of a "Thai cooking" lesson we took at the hotel. Dinner was fantastic and we were so hungry that we forgot to take a photo of it before we ate the whole thing up... Saying goodbye to the hotel staff was a little hard - it was the first time we stayed at the sam...

Bangkok Next stop Bangkok for a couple of days. I've (Paul) been to Bangkok before and hadn't any great desire to spend too much time in the sweatiest, smelliest city in SE Asia. We were staying on the Khao San Road which is backpacker hell. I think every westerner in the region spends some time on the gaudy Khao San Road. But at least we had po...

Saturday the 22nd of March, JESS ARRIVES IN BANGKOK!!! That morning Mike and I had gone to the MBK, a big shopping mall in pursuit of ipods and cameras but were somewhat marred by the fact my bank helpfully blocked my card. Excellent. We tuk-tuk-ed it back to Koa San Road to eagerly awat the arrival of the Beeson Jones. It was a very exciting re...

My first Week of being a Sticky Sweaty MESS
Mar 20, 2008

After a very dull flight from Hong Kong, i arrived in Thailand in the evening and was somewhat overwhelmed by the heat. A wooly dress, leggings and jacket are simply not right for the Thai weather - very hot and humid. I met Mike at the airport (a somewhat surreal experience) and we hopped in an illegal taxi which took us to the famous backpacke...

Cast of Characters The trip was an all-male November affair (I really waited to write this one), though it was originally supposed to include one female. Two of the guys are teachers at my school in Korea, Incheon English Village. Matt is an eccentric former trucker from Oklahoma, who is a great pianist and thus teaches Mozart. Randal is a very ...

We arrived in Saturday night after a 11 hour haul from Heathrow - not the best conditions to arrive into a city like Bangkok! From the start we were running the gauntlet past pestering tuk-tuk & taxi drivers, street traders, tailors, gem sellers & everybody else selling something or someone... We stayed on the Khao San Road but this was...

Gemischte Kritiken

Warning

Be careful! This hotel accused us of having made a burnmark in the sheet, and tried to have us paid for a new sheet. Maybe they have

put this in system. Outside the window there where condoms, cigarettes and other junk. This is not representative for Thailand, but destroyed our holiday in Bangkok.

Clean, nice place

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-01-11
We were staying at D&D at christmastime 2005 in a double room. The hotel is very nice, clean, has a friendly staff and excellent situation. We asked for a room from the quiet side, because of the noisy street Khao San Road and ou room was quit enough to have a nice sleep. The room had no window, but it had it´s own balcony with balconydoor. The place is not expensive compared to the service. The thaimassage is a must when you go to D&D and also the roomservice is very good. Swimmingpool on rooftop, what else do you want?

Budget Brillaince!

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-01-01
I felt I had to write this after reading the other reviews on the D & D Inn! Myself & 3 friends began our world trip at the D & D & we loved it! As bangkok was our base we stayed at the D & D on 3 seperate occasions when in Bangkok & loved it each time! We opted for a VIP room (but still a steal compared to usual accomo prices!) which gave a huge room, en suite, Koh Sarn Road view & clean towels & linen. The food is good value & it really is in a great position! A friend of ours stayed at the Koh San Palace & said it was disgusting! D & D is defo the best option for any backpacker! And the roof top pool is a winner! D & D Rocks!

Mixed reviews

I have stayed at the D & D about 5 different times and have had different experiences, mainly good but also bad!!The D& D is perfectly located on the Koh San Road and really has its pros and cons, here they are: -

-The staff can sometimes be very rude and abrupt, and will try and make you buy the most expensive room, always ask to look at what room you are buying

-They have 2 types of rooms, the windowless rooms are a disgrace and feels like you are in a prison cell, however the rooms with windows are much more modern and pass for a 3/4* standard. So always make sure you check the room first or request a window room. DO NOT STAY IN THE HOTEL IF YOU HAVE A WINDOWLESS ROOM IT WILL SPOIL THE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!

- The hotel is always very clean and safe to stay in, with secuirty 24 hours a day

- They offer great facilities, such as beauty treatments, massages very cheaply, 24 hour internet access, and a very nice thai restaurant which plays movies every night on a big screen

- The swimming pool on the top floor is its greatest advantage, as they have a bar and its the place to be in Bangkok during the day as they play good music and also serve food.

Just what we needed

from clg199 on 2005-09-20
Having had a nasty experience with a brothel masquerading as a hostel in Sukhumvit we headed for the D&D, and it was great. The check in staff are a little abrupt, but we were shown around two rooms, had our bags brought up for us and had no problems whatsoever. We had to extend our stay as my boyfriend became ill but throughout the 7 days we spent there the staff were polite and helpful, making up the room when we wanted it and leaving us in peace when we didn't. The room was big but windowless, but you don't go to Bangkok to look out of the window. The bed was huge and comfortable, the bathroom was always cleaned and the aircon worked brilliantly. The rooftop bar and pool are perfect for chilling out in and sell the best watermelon shakes ever. It might be more expensive than the competition but it more than makes up for it by being clean, comfortable and well placed. Would highly recommend it as an alternative to trudging around the other guesthouses trying to save a few bhat - well worth it!

A prison for tourists

from Littlemisstourist on 2005-07-05
We stayed here following recomendations from friends- after an exhaustingly long trip we arrived at the D&D Inn expecting an ok room- but instead it just made me want to cry! A windowless prison cell is the only was I could explain it. The bathroom was alright but apart from that cement walls and a THIN dirty bed covered in stains and cigarette holes meeted us- hm nice. The towels and bed linen stank and there were constantly noisy people going past the door- a nasty nasty horrible dirty place!!!!!

We loved the D&D

from Edge on 2005-05-03
We were very apprehensive of staying at this B&B, particulary as it was on the infamous Kohsan Road. From the outside, the hotel looks very basic, however as soon as we were inside the hotel we were greated by the friendly staff and shown to our very clean and comfortable room. The hotel was surprisingly quiet considering it's location, and the view from the rooftop bar is great. I would strongly recommend this hotel for anyone on a budget.

Rudeness beyond belief

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-04-11
I'm afraid i have to write this review due to the appalling way myself and my travelling companion were treated on a stopover in Bangkok. There was a mis-communication between staff and ourselves. We though we were checking into a twin room, which turned out to be a double. We explained the mixup and asked for a refund straight away. We were told that we wouldn't get anywhere. When we insisted on a refund so we could stay elsewhere as they had no other room, they said they would blacklist us on the Kosan Road and that they would make sure we did not get accommodation anywhere else. I was completely taken aback and had never been spoken to in such a manner especially as we were not agressive or rude in our tone. Based on this appalling customer service that i would advise all travellers to Bangkok to stay away from the D&D hotel.
