... through Salton City. I pass the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, named after the former entertainer, one-time Palm Springs Mayor, and U.S. Congressman from California.

The refuge was established in 1930 as a sanctuary and breeding ground for birds and wild animals, then renamed after Bono, who played an active role in trying to save the Salton Sea. I got you, Babe.

We got trail underfoot by 6:50 am on the 27th, ready to perform like we had coming in to Warner Springs. Motivated by prospects of hot breakfast we ventured onward. Great time was made and by slack packing, or traveling with very little food and water, we averaged a solid 3 mph and got to Paradise cafe, mile 151 at 9:45 am.
