    It's homecoming day.

    I'm so excited to be coming home that I wake up at 3:30 this morning in my Wickenburg hotel room. No alarm clock. It just happens.

    I remember that it's no fun riding on a hot day. Today's forecast is for temperatures in the low 100s in La Quinta and other desert locales along the way.

    We got trail underfoot by 6:50 am on the 27th, ready to perform like we had coming in to Warner Springs. Motivated by prospects of hot breakfast we ventured onward. Great time was made and by slack packing, or traveling with very little food and water, we averaged a solid 3 mph and got to Paradise cafe, mile 151 at 9:45 am. I had a huge Anza omelet and Becca got a massive plate of pancakes. By the time we were finishing breakfast, we saw our now great friend Dennis coming into the cafe. ...

    ... A desert hike, relatively flat after the first slight incline. I pondered the difference of a desert hike and realized for me it is the fact that you can see so far all around you-- this one had mountains on three sides-- and yet every so often I remind myself to not get caught up looking so far away but to keep my eyes on the ground near my feet just in case some snake be out basking in the sunshine, despite not signs indicating they are present.

    ... front tires were removed, about a cup of brake dust would fall off the rim. Kyle Busch lead most of the time but in the last 3 laps there were 3 leader changes with local/favorite driver, Kevin Harvick from Bakersfield winning. After a 60 second burnout at the finish line (where he dissappeared in an acrid rubber cloud), it was done. Awesome!
