We are staying in one of the best rooms because we have a view of the Spanish Steps. there was a buffet but we haven't tried it yet.

... after 5pm and so the queue to go up the bell tower next to the Basilica was short, so off we went. George, Zoe and Jason were disappointed to discover there was only a lift to the top and no stairs like the Culpa in Rome! The view of the red roof tops over Venice was beautiful.
We ended the day having pizza and pasta at the little restaurant below our hotel.

It was quite amazing. The only downside to this day was the extreme heat. It was one of the hottest days of the week, and the long clothes are not super comfortable on those days. We had set the iPad alarm for 7.30am. I got up but the other two slept in/bludged in bed til 8. Our tour of the Vatican was booked for 10am. Google maps told me that it would take 45 minutes to walk to the meeting point, so we hailed a cab.
