The kids were able to go out into the surrounding neighborhoods to order food, shop, and speak with the locals. This valuable real life experience gave them the opportunity to use their Chinese speaking abilities in the best environment suited to practice a language. They eagerly took advantage of the situation and I was proud to see them practice their Chinese!
... hung out with us for a while, and everything would have been pretty back on track....if only I hadn't left my iPad at the gate when we went up to verify our passports! Can you believe it? When I discovered that, John hiked back down there to retrieve it....and he STILL didn't call off the trip! So here we are on our third and final leg of our journey today. I haven't lost anything else....YET. Don't forget, it's only 7:30 a.m. here....with a full day ...

We all arrived at the airport between 4:30 and 5 am to check-in. Traveling internationally our bags have to be under 50 pounds. Most of us were at about 49.5 lbs.
We are excited to go to China and start our adventure in Beijing. We have a long flight a head of us. We fly less than two hours to Chicago, 4 hour layover (didn't happen), and a 13 + hour flight to Beijing.
